To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, CHARLOTTE H. HAIGHT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Oswego, in the county of Kendall and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Griddle-Greasers and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

My invention relates to improvements in devices for greasing griddles, baking-pans, and the like; and it consisits in the novel construction, combination, and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and-claimed.

The object of the invention is to provide a simple, convenient, and inexpensive device of this character by means of which a hot griddle, a baking-pan, or the like may be quickly and easily greased without burning or soiling the hands.

The above and other objects are accomplished by means of the construction illus trated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved griddle-greaser. Figs. 2 and 3 are transverse sectional views through the same,-

and Fig. 4 is a plan view of the device in its open position with the cloth or pad removed.

Referring to the drawings by numeral l denotes my improved griddle-greaser, which I preferably construct of wire, as shown. The body portion 2 of the device comprises a handle 3 and a fork or head 4, and it is preferably formed from a single piece of wire by bending it centrally upon itself to form a loop 4 and parallel sides 5. The ends of the wire are then bent outwardly to form the outer bars 6 of the head, then bent inwardly upon each other, as at 7, so that their extreme ends 8 will be in contact and extend between the side bars 5 of the handle. These ends are secured, preferably, by clamping, soldering, or otherwise securing upon them and the bars 5 a band or loop 9 and also a similar band or loop 10, which surrounds them adjacent to their bent ends 7. The side bars 5 of the handle are also preferably spaced apart and secured together by a surrounding loop or band 11, which is soldered or otherwise secured to them. The fork or head 4, which is disposed at a slight angle with respect to the handle by bending the latter slightly, is adapted to have a greasing cloth or pad 12 removably secured thereon by a clamp 13,

which is pivotally mounted upon the outer end of the fork or head. This pad 12 is preferably formed by wrapping or winding a strip of cloth around the head or fork 4, and the clamp 13 is preferably formed from a single piece of wire, as shown. This piece of wire is bent upon itself to form a handle portion 14 and spaced parallel jaws 15, which have at their ends eyes or loops 16 to engage the loops 7 of said head and pivotally connect the clamp thereto. The clamp 13 is bent angularly, so that the jaws 15 will press the pad or cloth'12 down between the parallel bars of the head 4 to cause it to be retained thereon. The handle end 14 of the clamp is adapted to rest upon the top of the handle 3 and to be locked thereon by a slide 17, which is in the form of a wire loop surrounding the bars 5 of the handle. This loop or slide is of substantially triangular form and is adapted to slide over an angularly-bent keeper portion 18, formed in the handle end of the clamp. IVhen the loop 17 is disengaged from the clamp, the latter may be swung open to its position shown in Fig. 4, so that a cloth may be readily wrapped around the head 4.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

A griddle-greaser comprising a body portion, a clamp, and a locking-loop, said body portion being formed from a single piece of wire, doubled to form a handle having parallel side bars 5, and a head or fork having laterally-extended side bars 6, incurved portions 7 and longitudinally-extending center bars 8, the ends of which are disposed be tween the bars 5; said clamp being formed from a single piece of wire, doubled to provide the handle portion 14 having the angularly-bent keeper 18 at one end and the laterally-extended bars 15 at the opposite end, said bars 15 being provided at their outer ends with eyes 16 pivotally connecting the clamp to the incurved portions 7 of the body portion, and the said locking-loop being slidably disposed on the bars 5, to engage and disengage the keeper 18, substantially as described.
