Be it known that I, KARL BALLOD, a subject of the Emperor of Russia, residing at No. 39 Revaler street, Riga, Russia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cycle-Locks and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable 0t ers skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

In order to enable the catch device to be automatically looked, a spring-actuated lever is provided having two noses, so that when the bolt is pressed from the outside against one of the noses the other nose releases a sliding piece, whereby the latter is, by means cf a spring, moved in a horizontal di- 3o rection, and its end engages in a slot in the bolt. The opening of the catch device is effected by means of a key the ward of which engages a notch in the sliding piece and returns the same to its original position.-

When the bolt 6 is swung down into the position shown in dotted lines in Fig. 1, the parts of the lock are in the position shown in Fig. 5. When this bolt is swung up into the position shown in full lines in Fig. 1, the end of it strikes the nose f of the lever e, lifting it against the tension of the spring S. When the nose g of the lever e releases the ledge h of the sliding piece d, the latter by the action of the spring 9, bearg against the projection K on the sliding piece d, is moved to the right. In this move,- ment the forward part i of the sliding piece (1 passes through a suitable opening in the side of the casing and at the same time into a slot in the bolt 6, so that the latter is secured in this position. To open the look, a key 10 is introduced, the ward of which enters a notch in the sliding piece (1 and draws said piece back against the tension of the spring g to the position shown in Fig. 6. As soon as the ledge h of the sliding piece d has slid past beneath the nose 9 of the lever the lever e is pressed downward under the action of the spring S, so that the nose g, Figs. 5 and 6, lies in front of the ledge h and prevents the movement of the sliding piece (1 by the action of the spring As soon as the bolt 6 is released by reason of the part i of the sliding piece (1 leaving the slot in the bolt it turns downward around the pin 0 under the action of the spring u and lies against one arm of the fork, as shown in Fig. 8, so that when the wheel is rotating the bolt cannot come into contact with the wheel rim. After use the swinging cover 0 can be brought back into the closed position, as shown in Fig. 5.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A cycle lock comprising two clamps adapted to be attached to the bars of the mounted a lever 6, one nose f said lock open after it has been opened by a frame of a cycle, a spring-actuated bolt pivl oted on one of said clamps, a casing containing a lock carried by the other clamp and a swinging attachment to said casing, said lock being provided with spring-actuated means for holding said bolt when swung into contact therewith, and with means for holding key, substantially as described.
2. A cyclelock comprising two clamps adapted to be secured to the bars of the frame of a cycle, a swinging bolt pivotally attached to one of said clamps, a spring tending to swing said bolt out of contact with the cyclewheel, a casing provided with a lock carried by the other clamp, said casing being provided with a swinging extension, and springactuated means in said lock for automatically engaging and locking said bolt when the latter is swung up into contact therewith, and spring-actuated means for holding said lock open after it has been opened by a key, substantially as described.
3. A cycle-lock comprising two clamps adapted to be secured to the bars of the frame of a cycle, a slotted bolt pivotally connected to one of said clamps, a spring engaging said bolt and normally tending to hold it out of contact with the cycle-wheel, a casing, provided with a swingin extension, carried by the other clamp, a lock in said casing, a spring-actuated sliding piece provided with a projection, the end of said sliding piece being adapted to engage the slot in said bolt and a spring-actuated pivoted piece provided with a projection adapted to engage the projection on said sliding piece and hold the lock open after it has been opened by a key, substantially as described.
