Description
PATENTED FEB. 20, 1906.
0. H. HOLT. SHOE RACK TAG. APPLICATION FILED HAILZ, 1905.
affozmu CHARLES H. HOLT, OF BROCKTON, MASSACHUSETTS.
SHOE-RACK TAG.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 20, 1906.
Application filed March 2,1905. Serial No. 248,151.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, CHARLES H. HOLT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Brockton, in the county of Plymouth and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Shoe-Rack Tags; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to marking tags or signs, and particularly to tags or signs for marking racks for holding shoes in shoe-factories.
The object of the invention is to provide a tag or sign of this character and means whereby the same may be readily placed on or re moved from a shoe-rack.
A further object is to provide a tag or sign of this character which will be simple, strong, durable, and inexpensive in construction and well adapted to the purpose for which it is designed.
With these and other objects in view the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, combination, and arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a side elevation of a portion of a shoe-rack, showing the application of the invention thereto. Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional View through the upper end of the corner-post of the rack, showing the manner in which the tag or sign is supported; and Fig. 3 is a detail perspective view of the tag or sign removed.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, 1 denotes the tag, which consists of a flat plate, preferably formed of stiff sheet metal. The plate 1 may be of any desired shape, but is here shown and is preferably rectangular in form, the corners of the same being rounded ofi.
To one side of the plate is riveted or otherwise secured the flattened upper end of a rod 2, which forms a shank or stem for the plate,
by which the latter is supported. Said shank or stem is adapted to be inserted into a sleeve or ferrule 3, which is set into the upper end of one of the corner-posts 4 of the shoe-rack 5 and which forms a socket to receive said stem or shank.
On the plates are painted or otherwise inscribed numbers which are intended to represent the days of the month, and the tags bearing the number of certain days are used on those days exclusively for marking the racks on which the shoes are placed that are started that day, this number remaining on the rack throughout the various rooms through which the same passes while the shoes are being made until the same are completed.
By marking the racks with a tag of this character the day when the shoes thereon were begun can be seen at a glance, thus aiding in keeping track of the shoes started each day, it being understood that a sufficient number of tags are provided for each day in the month and numbered 'to correspond to such days. I
By the use of these tags the racks may be quickly marked each day as the shoes are placed thereon.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the construction and operation of the inven tion will be readily understood without requiring a more extended explanation.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The herein-described shoe-rack and marking-ta'g therefor, consisting of a rack having upwardly-projecting corner-posts, a socket formed in said corner-posts, and a metal tube fitted therein, and a marking-tag consisting of a supporting-rod having a flattened upper ortion, a sheet-metal tag-plate riveted to said flattened upper portion of said rod and provided with a designating mark or, number, the lower end of said rod being round and blunt or unpointed, and adapted to be placed in the metal tube in the corner-post, essentially as described.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing wit- CHARLES H. HOLT.
'IIGSSGS.
