Specification of LettersPatent.
Patented Feb. 13, 1906- Application filed February 29, 1904. Serial No. 195,818.
Be it known that I, JOHN ROGERS, a citi'- zen of the United States, residing at Cleveland, in the county of Cuyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful improvements in Valve-Bags, of which the following is a specification.
rlhis invention relates to bags which are iilled through a valve-"controlled opening by means oi" a tube or funnel.
The improved hav, which is usually of paper, but may be of c oth, has a folded top and bottom and a vfilling-opening in the top 1n position to he closed by one'of the folds serving as a valve. In the lpreferred construction the bag has a diamond-folded top and bottom, rthc filling-opening lbeing closed by one of the primary folds.
. Referring tothe accompanying drawings, Figure l is a perspective view of a paper valve-bag having a circular filling-opening in the top, and Fig. 2 is a perspective view lo the artially-folded upper end of the bag.
T e paper bag l chosen for illustration is closed at both its top and bottom by diamond folds, comprising the primary folds 2 3 and the iinishing folds 4 5. The inner finishing fold 4 of the top is pasted down upon the upper primary fold 3. the outer portion ofthe other primary fold 2,
leaving the inner portion 2 entirely free.
The outer 'finishing fold 5 is then pasted upon the 'fld'st hA-circular or-other--opening 6 is cut through both of the finishing folds.
In filling the bag the usual filling-tube 7 is inserted through the opening 6 and between the fold 3 and the free end 2 of the fold 2.
It is also'pasted uponA When the ba is filled and reversed, the fold 2 acts as a va ve and positively and securely closes the filling-opening.
The utilization of one of the primary folds as a valve makes it possible to furnish avalvebag at minimum cost, no extra material being required.
I claim- 1. A valve-bag, having a diamondfolded closure, the folds being permanently secured,
and a 'filling-opening extending through the finishing folds and in position to .he closed by one of the primary folds of the closure, as set forth. i
2. A valve-bag, having a dia1nond-folded closure at each end, the folds being permam nently secured, 'and a filling-'opening extend` ing through the finishing folds of one closure and in position to be closed by one of the primary folds of that closure, as set forth.
3. A valve-bag having a folded closure at one end, the folds permanently secured, and a filling-o enng extending through the finishing fol', and in osition to be closed by vone of the primary fo dns.
4. A' valve-bag having a folded closure at one end, the folds permanently secured, and a filling-opening with a valve extension extending through the fabricY ofthe valve at or near one corner. A In testimony whereof I allix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
