Description
PATENTED FEB. 6, 1906. H. N. KBMPTON.
ll NITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
i HENRY N. Kinn'ron, or Ticino. MONTANA.
HAME.
Specification of Lettera Patent..
Patented Feb. 6, 1906.
Application tiled May 13. |906. Bei-lul No 260,308.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it. known that l, HENRY N KEiiProN, n citizen of the United States of America, residing at Terry, in the county of Custer and Stute o f Montana, have invented new and useful Improvements in Haines, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to homes, and has for its objects to produce n simple inexpensive device of this character in which the ring of the connecting-strap may be readily released for adjustment upon the haine, one wherein the retaining member or keeper will be securelv locked in closed positiomimd one wherein the locking member may7 be readily manipulated for retleasing said keeper.
With these und other objects in view the invention comprises the novel features of construction and combination of parts more full)-v hereinafter set forth.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of n hante embodying the invention. Fig. :2 is a central longitudinal section through a portion thereof, on an enlarged scale. showing the retaining member i* in closed and locked position. tail view of the lockingr member. Fig. 4 is a transverse section teiten on the line l 4 of F ie. 2.
ieferring to the drawings, 1 designates ii haine of the listini or an).` appro riute form and Iprcfeiably composed of woot bavingnpplieir to its outer face n protecting covering Fig. 3 is a de- 2 upper end of a retaininer member or keeper 13, pivotally connectei with the post by means of a transverse pintie 14 und having at its lower end :i right-aiigulady-disposed intuined portion or finger l5. terminating nt its inner end in a reduced engaging portion or section 16, rovided with a'triinsversclymxtending'soc et or recess 17, designed for engagement by a pivoted loc-king member or bar 18, whereby the retaining member 13 is locked in closed position. The engaging poi'- tion or section 16 ol' the retaining member fits when the hitter is in closed position within an opening or socket 19, formed at n suitable point in the l1anie,which also has formed therein and at the inner face of the outer protecting-plate 2 a recess 20 to receive the locking member or bar 18, which latter is in turn equi pcd with n finger piece or knob '21, the
slum of which moves in und is guided by nn arcuate guidcwny or slot '22, formed in the plate .2.
In riicticc when the member 13 is in closed position its inner edge seats in the recesses tl at the ends of the arms while the reduced engaging portion at the terminal of the iirm 15 enters. as before stated, into the o ening 19 for engagement by the locking mcni )er 18, which bitter may he moved to locking position through the medium of the fingcnpiece l 21. attention being directed to the fact thnt or binding 2 of sheet metal. the hnine being equipped, as usual. with n trace-engaging member 3 and ii rein-guiding ring -1.
and at up ro riately-spziced intervals is ii plurality oi) su astnntinllv horizontal spacing members or arms euch provided nt its inucr end willi :i shank .extendcd trnnsvcrsel)` through the body of the hnuie and beaded :it the uorninllvinncr face of thc latter. ns ut 7. there being formed nl the outer ends of tho thc inner edge o1 the retaining-bnr 13 is rccessed. as: nt 23. the recesses being dispos-cd nt appro i'iutc intervalsl to register with the ends oft ie arms 5. The arms 5 sci-vc to pron dure between thcn'i spaces for the reception Proiec-ting from the outer face of the heine 1 at a point suitably remote from its upper end necessary or dcsii'nblc thc retaining iucinhcr urins` :'i enlargements ol' bends N. euch luiviiig i formed therein n vcrticnll v-1lispsed sont or recess .1 for :i purpose which will presi-ntl)v appear. Disposed nbovc the uppermost arm Sunil spaced therefrom is u liorizontiillyirojecting post or hi'uckct 1U, having a slinnit 1l extended through the bodjiv of the humo und ner to the sluinks (i, thc outer cud of the post li is rch-used und swung outu'nrd on its pivot. :is secu in Fig. l. thus to pci-init thidcsircd ndjustun'nt of thc ring.
Froin the foregoing it is nppzirciil thnt produce ii simple inexpensive dcvicc m|uiiruily adapted for thc nttniuiueut of tln` ends 1n view and one wherein the ring or buckle nl i thc end of tliucross-slrop muy bii'eaidilv ndliezided at itsl inner cud. iis at 1'2, 1n like nuinjustcd und secured in its ndjusu-d positions :upon the hunic, it being understood tlmt Hl being bii'uicuteil to receive thc nornnilly minor cbungcs in tbc dctiuls ol' construction herein set forth muy be resorted to without departing)r from the spirit or scope of the invcntion.
Having tl1us"described my invention, what I claim is- 1. In u device of the eless described, e
llame, a plurality of relativelys}mccd outwnrdly-projecting arms curricd thereby, said arms being provided at their outer ends with seats or recesses, e pivoted keeper adapted to elose over seid arms and seat within seid recesses, and means for locking the keeper in closed position.
2. In e device of the class described,
heme provided with a plurality of spaced 15 In testimony whereof I aflix my signature 2o in presence of two Witnesses.
HENRY N. KEMPTON.
