Description
A. MBNDELSOHN. CIGAR FOR ASTHMA.
APPLIUATION FILED AUG. 21, 1905.
PATENTED FEB. 6, 1906.
TINTTFU STATES CIIGAR FOR ASTHMA Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 6, 1906.
Application filed August 21, 1905. Serial No. 275,148.
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, AARON MENDELsoHN, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city and county of San Francisco and State of California, have invented new and useful Improvements in Cigars for the Relief of Asthma, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a device for the re lief of asthma and similar troubles.
It consists of a cigar manufactured with a filling of cherry-leaves and stramonium having an exterior wrapper of tobacco-leaves.
The stramonium when dried is in the form of an elongated stem having a bulbous end, and these stems are out of such length as to form the desired length of the cigar. These stems form a center support for the remainder of the cigar, as shown at A. As many of these stems may be bunched together as are required. to form a suitable diameter, and around this central mass are arranged cherryleaves, as shown at 2. These leaves form an exterior coating for the central stems, and they may also, if desired, be inserted between and compressed with the stems if more than one of such stems is employed. The whole is then inclosed in a tobacco-leaf wrapper 3, which is coiled around the outside, forming a complete cigar.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a longitudinal view of a cigar, partially in section. Fig. 2 is a transverse section.
I prefer to make these cigars somewhat slender and of considerable length. The upper end of the cigar is completed by twisting it, so as to retain the wrapper in place. The lower end may be cut square or in any suitable manner. Any suitable material may be usedfor awrapper; but I have found tobaccoleaves to be the most satisfactory on account of the character of the leaf and its peculiar adaptability for making such wrappers.
In using these cigars or cigarettes the patient lights the cigar and takes a small number of whiffs of the smoke. As many as five or a few more may be taken, and the smoke should be swallowed or drawn inwardly and then blown out through the nostrils. After a short rest a few more whi'lfs may be taken, and the coughing will be checked. The cigar or cigarette may then be extinguished and again used whenever a coughing fit takes place or when a patient lies down for rest at night.
Having thus described my invention, What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- 1. A cigar or cigarette having the center formed of the stems and heads of stramonium and cherry-leaves inclosing or intertwining therewith to form a binder throughout the length of the stramonium filling serving as a binder therefor, and an exterior wrapper of tobacco-leaves.
2. An article of manufacture consisting of stramonium-stems clustered and disposed longitudinally to form a central filling, cherryleaves inclosing or intertwined therewith a binder throughout the length of the stramonium filling serving as a binder therefor and an exterior wrapper of tobacco-leaves.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
AARON MENDELSOI-IN.
