After thepaper has passed the platen-roller B it is desirable to provide means for delivering it orthe sheets thereof outwardly and upwardly, sov aslto'. prevent such sheets from following down and around the surface of the roller. To accomplish this result, 1 provide a guide-plate B,-(see Figs. Land 3-,) said guidenieansiwhereby. the severing cutter A may be thrown back out of the way, so as to facili'- tate the entrance and proper relative adjustment of the strips'of record -paperthrough the machine. To accomplish this result, I provide the ends of the knife-bar A with sleeves A", -(see-Figs,--1, 3, and 8,) fitting over the rod or bar E and constituting, in effect, a hingejoint connection by which'the cutterbar A inay be swung or rocked backwardly about the rod E as an axis and out of the way whenever itidesired to do so. This cuttingbar may be clamped in position when once adjusted in anyconvenient mannew-as', for instance, by means of the set-screws (PI As above indicated, an attachment embodying the principles of my invention is adapted :fdi' general use in connection with type-writing machines, and the attachment is of such construction that it may be readily applied to type-writing machines of any .type or make.
