NOTE-BOOK.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 2, 1906.
Application filed January 15, 1902. Serial No. 89,795.
To all whom it Wmy concern.-
Be it known that we,JoHN O. HAOKMANN and WILLIAM H. PALMER, citizens of the United States, residing at St. Paul, in the county of Ramsey andState of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Note-Books, of which the following is a specification.
Our invention relates to improvements in binders for loose-leaf note-books, its object being to provide a loose-leaf binder consisting of a pair of rings which pass through the leaves, said rings being supported and connected by a rigid bar.
To this end our invention consists in the features of construction and combination hereinafter specifically described and claimed.
In the accompanyingdrawings, forming part of this specifiation, Figure 1 is an end view of a loose-leaf note-book constructed in accordance with our invention. Fig. 2 is a section on line 00 wof Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a plan view of the note-book. Fig. 4 is a side elevation with part of the leaves turned to open position. Fig. 5 is a detail of the binder.
As shown in the drawings, thenote-book consists of a series of loose leaves 2 and suitable covers 3. i
A represents the binder, consisting of a single piece of wire bent laterally at its ends to form the rings 4. The ends 5 of the wire are bent, as shown, to interlock with the body of the binder. The note-book is formed with openings 6, preferably cut curved to hold the leaves in alinement when the binder is in po sition, as shown in Fig. 2.
With the binder in position as shown in Figs. 1 to 4, inclusive, the leaves when written upon are turned upon the rings to open position, as shown in Fig. 4. When one side of all of the leaves of the book have been Written upon, the leaves can be turned upon the binder in the opposite direction to allow the opposite sides of the leaves to be used.
We claim In combination a note-book comprising a series of loose leaves and a binder consisting of a single piece of wire bent to form a straight portion and at each end to form a complete circle standing at a right angle with said straight portion whereby the leaves will swing freely upon said circular portions from end to end thereof so as to always lie fiat.
In testimony whereof we aflix our signatures in presence of two witnesses.
