JACOBUS, of Flat Brookville, in thecounty of Sussex, and State of New Jersey, have 'invented e new and useful Improvement in Screws and Screw-Drivers; and I (lo hereby 4declare that the following-is a full, clear, and exact description'thereoi, which will enable those skilledin theart-ito make and @rse the same, reference being had to the accompanying` drawings, forming part of this-specification. This invention vrelates to certain iinprovements'in screws, and itl consists in providing the head of the sere vith two or more triangular notches, extending through-it,V and slightly dvetailed.
The object in providing the head of the screw `with these notchesis to adapt the same to be 'grasped by n screw-driver of peculiar construction, for which -Iam about to mehr application for Lett-ers Patent.

In figl is shown, in red, one jaw of a screw-driver 'adapted foruse with my improved screw. .It is necessary that the number of these jaws should correspond with thc number of notches in the screw. l I find it-most convenient to employ three.4 The ends of the jaws aretbcvelled in such a vmanner that, when tted in the notches 6, they conformto the shape of the screw-head upon the under side, wherebytlie screw can be set into the wood, and'its head countersunk, without removing the jaws.
lIt is not designed to form a hole in the wood to which the screw is to be applied previous to the introduction ofthe screw, but Vthe latter, after being grasped bythe screw-driver, held in au ordinary bit-stock, is
