Description
PATENTED DEC. 12, 1905.
B. TORNQUIST. ADJUSTABLE PAPER KNIFE.
APPLICATION FILED $121 123, 1905.
HRH I UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ELOF TORNQUIST, OF ST. PAUL, MINNESOTA, ASSIGNOR TO THE WESTERN AUTOGRAPHIO REGISTER COMPANY, OF ST. PAUL, MINNESOTA, A
CORPORATION OF MINNESOTA.
ADJUSTABLE PAPER-KNIFE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 12, 1905.
Application filed September 23, 1905. Serial lie-279,853.
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, ELOF TORNQUIST, a citizen of the United States, residing at St. Paul, in, the county of Ramsey and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Adjustable Paper-Knives, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in adjustable knife-clips to be used in connection with memorandum-slips for the purpose of holding the leaves together and present a cutting edge to assist in tearing ofl any desired portion of the slip.
To this end my invention consists in the features of construction and combination hereinafter particularly described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, Figure l is a perspective view of my device shown in connection with a pad of meal-ticket slips. Fig. 2 is an end view of the same. Fig. 3 is a rear view of the attachment, and Fig. 4 is a section on line w w of Fig. 3.
As shown in the drawings, the device consists of a plate A, bent to constitute a clip to receive the pad of slips B and the ends of the plate being bent to form parallel oppositelydisposed spring-tongues 2, each tongue being bent upwardly toward the top of the clip and havingafinger extension 3 extending through an opening in the opposite end of the clip. The spring-tongues 2 will therefore press against the bottom of the pad, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, to hold the clip in adjusted positions upon the pad. The sides of the top of the clip are beveled to form cutting edges 4:. The slips to be used with this device are preferably, as shown in the drawings, inscribed with a row of numerals of gradually-increasing denominations, whereby a portion of the slip may be cut off above any one of the figures and the torn-off portion used as a memorandum-slip to show the price of the meal to be paid for.
In use the device will be moved to the proper position upon the pad and the projecting portion of the top slip torn ofl, using the adjacent edge 4 of the device as a knife. By having cutting edges upon opposite sides the device is reversible upon the pad. The top of the device, being flat, will keep the device from tipping upon the pad and also form asurface to receive suitable designating matter.
Having now described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A device of the class described comprising a metal plate bent to form a flat top and ends at right angles therewith, and oppositelydisposed parallel spring-tongues extending inwardly and upwardly from the bottom of the opposite ends.
2. A device of the class described compris: ing a metal plate bent to form a flat top with cutting edges upon its opposite sides, downwardly-extending ends, and oppositely-disposed inwardly and upwardly extending bottom springs.
3. In combination with slips of the class described, a device consisting of a metal plate bent to form a fiat top with cutting edges, downwardly-extending ends, and inwardly and upwardly extending bottom spring-tongues, the ends of said tongues projecting through openings in the ends of the device, for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
. ELOF TORNQUIST.
