UNITED STATES- PATENT OFFICE.
CHARLES J. PAULSON, OF NEWV YORK, N; Y., ASSIGNOR TO PHOEBE R.
' MAOLAURIN, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
SOAP--BUBBLE GENERATOR.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 12, 1905.
Application filed October 6, 1904. Serial No. 227,346.
To (LZZ whom, it may concern.-
Be it known that I, CHARLES J. PAULsoN, a subject of the King of Sweden and Norway, and a resident of the borough of Brooklyn, New York city, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Soap-Bubble Generators, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to soap-bubble toys; and it consists of abubble-generating device in which the blow-tube and funnel are combined in a simple and cheap construction with a water and soap holding cup comprising two parts only and being a simple and efiicient device to construct, as hereinafter described, reference being made to the accompanying drawings, in which 2 Figure 1 is a plan view of my improved device. Fig. 2 is a vertical section on line 1 1 of Fig. 1.
A represents a sheet-metal or other suitable cup, preferably of such material as will not break readily. It is preferably provided with a removable cover a, flanged so as to fit on the-top of the cup, either by screwing thereon or not.
6' represents the blow-tube, which is fitted through the cup near the top horizontally, preferably being tightly fitted in perforations of the sides of the cup at 0, soras not to leak, and projecting at each side suitably for the provision of a mouthpiece d at one end and a funnel e at the other end, said end merging in the small end of the funnel at f. Within the cup a .slight aperture 9 is cut for suction of soapy water into the tube by blowing through the tube from the mouthpiece.
For best results the cup is to be shaken or jerked slightly before blowing to throw a wave of water onto the tube and deposit thereon a slight film to be taken up by the air-jet and carried along into the funnel, where it develops in bubbles in the usual way.
The soap solution may be prepared before charging the cup or the cup may be charged with plain water and a small piece of soap it for dissolving gradually in the water.
The tube will preferably be arranged hori- Zontally through the cup above the level of the water; but it may be otherwise arranged and may dip into the water; but in such case the aperture Q will be so limited in capacity as may be found best.
What I claim as my invention is A soap-bubble toy comprising a water-holding cup adapted to sit upright, a removable flanged cover for-closing the top of said cup, a blow-tube extending through the cup and beneath the top and having an aperture within the cup, a mouthpiece extension applied on the said tube at one side'of the cup, and a funnel extension applied on the said tube on the other side of the cup, the parts being arranged and combined substantially as shown and described.
Signed at New York this '27 th day of September, 1904.
CHARLES J. PAULSON. I
Witnesses G. SEDGWIOK, J. M. HOWARD.
