Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 12, 1905.
Application filed May 16, 1905. Serial No. 260,646.
T0 in whmn it may concern: V
Be it known that I, EDWARD HENRY HIG- BEE, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Roodhouse, in the county of Greene and State of Illinois, haveinvented anew and Improved Rectum-Supporter, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The purpose of the invention is to provide a practical, light, and simple appliance especially adapted for the relief and cure of prolapsus of the rectum and hemorrhoids or piles and to so construct the appliance that it may be worn with comfort and may be partially removed in an expeditious and convenient manner when occasion may demand.
The invention consists in the novel construc tion and combination of the several parts, as will be hereinafter fully set forth, and pointed out in the claims.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the complete appliance. Fig. 2 is a front elevation of one of the hooksemployed. Fig. 3 is'a vertical section through the belt and the rear hook, illustrating the manner in which a supporting-cord is attached to the hook; and Fig. 4 is a section through the body portion of the supporter and portions of the supportingcords, other portions of the cords being shown in elevation.
The supporter consists, primarily, of a spherical or ball body A, adapted to be fitted to the rectum, a rear supporting-cord B, extending from the rear central portion of the ball-body, and two forward supporting-cords C and D, which extend side by side from the forward central portion of said ball-body. All ofthe said parts are made of yielding or elastic rubber, and, as is shown at 10 in Fig. 4:, the body and supporting-cords are preferably molded or otherwise constructed in one piece.
In connection with the supporter just described a waist-belt 11 is provided, made of any suitable material, the ends whereof are connected by a buckle 1201' otherwise. Three hooks E are carried by the belt, one located at each side of the front central portion of the belt and one hook at its rear center, as is illustrated in Fig. 1. These hooks are especially adapted for quick and convenient engagement with or detachment from the supporting-cords B, O, and-D and are usually made each from one piece of wire of suitable gage, comprising a skeleton body 13, a skeleton bill 14, and a shank 15, extending down from the body, said shank having two eyes 16 and 17 formed therein, one above the other, as is particularly shown in Fig. 2. The manner in which the attachment is made between the supporting-cOrds B, C, and D, and the hooks E is clearly illustrated in Figs. 1 and 3, wherein the elastic cords are shown as passed through the lower eye 16 of the hook and then through the upper eye 17, being adjustably held in place by a bend in the cord between the eyes and the frictional engagement of the cord with the eyes.
It isevident that the cords may be quickly and conveniently attached to the hooks and as speedily and conveniently disconnected and that the cords may be adjusted in the hooks to suit the convenience of the wearer of the appliance.
The back cord B leadsup to the central portion of the back of the wearer and the forward cords upward at the groins for attachment to the belt in the manner described. The rear supporting cord B is twice the strength of each of the cords Oand D used in front, which gives an equal, positive, and continuous pressure in all directions against the anus and provides the greatest convenience in going to stool simply by unhooking the rear cord from theback of the waist-belt.
This supporter is very simple of adjustment and attachment to the waist-belt and is adjustable to .any size of person.
Having thus described my invention, Iclai as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. A rectum supporter, consisting of a spherical body, a rear cord integral with the body and leading from the rear central portion thereof and front cords which lead side by side from the front central portion of the said spherical body, the said cords and spherstrength than either of the forward cords, and means for removably and adjustably connecting the cords with the hooks.
3. The combination with a waist-belt and hooks carried thereby, said hooks being provided with downwardly-extending shanks having eyes therein arranged one above the other, of a supporter, consisting of a ball-body, a rear cord extending from the rear central portion of said ball-body, and forward cords extending side by side from the forward central portion of the body, all of the cords and the body being of elastic rubber but the rear cord being of greater strength than either of the other cords, the ends of the said cords being laced through the eyes of the said hooks, as described.
4. A rectum supporter, consisting of a waist-belt, a ball-body, a rear cord extending from said ball-body at its rear, forward cords extending side by side from the ball-body at its front, the cordsand body-being integrally constructed of a yielding material, the rear cord being of greater strength than either of the forward cords, and means for removably' and adjustably connecting the ends of said cords in said belt.
5. A rectum supporter, comprising a spherical body having integral therewith a rear and two forward cords, the body and cords being of elastic material.
In testimony whereofI have signedmyname to this specification-in the presence'of two subscribing witnesses.
