'ro ALL WHoM 1r MAY CONCEEN:
Be it known that I, GEORGE W. BURLING, of Trenton', in the county of Mercer, and State of New Jersey, have invented a. new and useful Improvement in Stove-Legs; and I do hereby declare that 'the following is a. full and exact vdescription of the same, reference-'being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of these-specifications, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
`Similar letters of reference, where they occur, denote like parts in all the drawings.
Figure 1 represents a circular slot, recessed at a a.
Figure 2 represents a lip on the upper part of the leg.
Figure 3 represents a side view of my improvement.
Figure 4 is an inverted view.
Figure 5 shows a. dove-tailed lip cast on the leg.
My invention consists in forming circular slots, recessed in the inner side, under the bottom of a. stove, into which a dove-tailed lip, cast on the upper portion of the leg, closely fits, so that when the leg is introduced into the slot, andl turned around to its proper position, it cannot fall or drop out. This is also applicable to.4 tables, desks, stools, or anything 'that requires an adjustable leg.
To enable others to make use of my invention, I will proceed to describe the-same.
The circular slot A, in iig. 1, is cast on the bottom of the stove, and has a recessedv groove, a a, the lip C passes, through the opening b.
E E, in figs. 2 and 5, isa. dove-tail formed on lip C ofthe leg B is the ordiuary`top of the leg.
into which ,fitting into slot a a under the bottom ofthe stove.
By this arrangement, when a stove or other leg is fitted into the slots a a through the opening and turned toits position, it is impossible for the leg to drop or slide out. The legiD` cannot, therefore, become detached,A unless desired.
By' the ordinary method of attaching stove-legs, the least touch, or an un even oor,-will often cause the leg to drop out, and thereby, in many cases, occasion serious accidents.
and desire to secure by Letters Patent, isand the dove-tailed lip C, or their equv- Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, The circular slot A, when combined with the grooved recess a a alents, substantially as and for the purpose described.
