DANIEL J. CLARK, OF JERSEY CITY, NEW JERSEY, ASSIGNOR TO HILLIARY ELDRIDGE AND JAMES C.- YOUNG, OF JERSEY CITY,
NEW JERSEY.
MANTLE-HANGER.
Patented Dec. 12, 1905.
Application filed June 14:, 1905. Serial No. 265,153.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, DANIEL J. CLARK, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Jersey City, in the county of Hudson and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Mantle- Hangers, of which the following is a specificatron.
My invention relates to mantle-hangers.
It has for its object to provide a mantlehanger comprising a plurality of independent curved sections or frames placed together to form a ring, each section adapted to support an independent hollow section of a ring-like mantle, whereby if one section of the mantle becomes burned out or broken it may be removed and replaced by a new one.
It has for a further object to provide a hanger of the character set forth embodying advantages in point of simplicity and inexpensiveness of construction and effectiveness 1n use.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a sectional view showing my hanger supporting a man tle on a burner. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the hanger. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of a modified form of the hanger.
In all the figures of the drawings illustrating my invention like reference characters designate corresponding parts.
Referring to Figs. 1 and 2 of the drawings, 1 designates a burner-head connected with the gas-supply by a pipe 2 and comprising a casting embodying a central chamber 3, a reticulated cap 4 thereon, and downwardly-extending radiating burners 5, leading from the chamber 3. To provide means for supporting a mantle-hanger and mantle, to be hereinafter described, in the proper relation to the burners, bosses 6 are formed on the burners, and each is provided with a vertical bore 7, intersected by a horizontal screw-threaded bore 8, engaged by a set-screw 9. A globe 10, open at the top and closed at the bottom, is supported on the supply-pipe, so as to surround the burner, mantle, and hanger.
The hanger comprises independent curved frames 15 and 16, each formed of a single piece of wire or other suitable material bent to present a horizontal portion 17, having large openings 18, 19, and 20, connected by narrow passages 21 and 22, and a verticallyextending portion 23, adapted to be inserted into one of the bores 7 in the burner and be secured therein by the set-screw 9. These hangers are for the purpose of supporting an incandescent mantle comprising independent hollow sections 25 and 26, having pockets connected by narrow passages.
Referring now to the modification shown by Fig. 3 of the drawings, this form of hanger comprises independent frames 30 and 31, each formed of a single piece of wire or other suitable material bent to present a horizontal portion 32, having a substantially semicircular opening 33 and a verticallyextending portion 35, adapted to engage one of the bores 7 and be secured by the set-screw 9. The incandescent mantle 40 supported by this form of hanger comprises independent hollow substantially semicircular sections 41 and 4:2.
These mantles are not herein claimed, as they form the subject of an application which I have filed concurrently herewith.
I do not wish to be understood as limiting myself to the precise details and arrangements of parts shown and described, but reserve the right to all modifications within the scope of my invention.
Having now described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A hanger for incandescent mantles, consisting of independent frames inclosing a space, each frame having an opening adapted to receive a plurality ofburners, substantially as described.
2. A hanger for incandescent mantles, consisting of independent frames inclosing a space, each frame having an opening adapted to receive a plurality of burners and means for supporting it on a burner, substantially as described.
3. A hanger for incandescent mantles, consisting of independent irregularlycurved frames inclosing a space, each frame having an opening adapted to receive a plurality of burners, substantially asdescribed.
Signed at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, this 15th day of May, A. D. 1905.
