Description
PATENTED DEC. 12, 1905- H. T. KINGSBURY.
' TOY FIRE ENGINE.
APPLIGATION FILED JULY 18,190.4-
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HARRY T. KINGSBURY. or KEENE, NEW HAMPSHIRE, ASSIGNOR TO NATIONAL NOVELTY CORPORATION, OF WESTFIELD, NEW YORK,
A CORPORATION OF JERSEY.
TOY FIRE-ENGINE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 12, 1905.
To all whom, it may concern.-
Be it known that I, HARRY T. KINGSBURY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Keene, in the county of Cheshire, State of New Hampshire, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Toy Fire-Engines, of which the following is a description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
My invention relates to an improvement in toys, and particularly to a toy fire-engine, the object being to provide a simple, inexpensive, and durable construction fashioned out of sheet metal by stamping and forming.
The main'feature of the invention relates to the construction of the forward frame .and the invention consists in the matters hereinafter described, and referred to in the appended claims.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a perspective View of a toy fireengine constructed in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the for- 2 5 ward-frame blank, and Fig. 3 is a plan view of the rear-frame blank. Fig. 4 is a fragmentary section showing the engagement of the lugs h with the central portion of the toy.
In the drawings, A represents the central 0 or boiler part of the fire-engine.
B represents the rear frame, the blank for which is shown in Fig. 3, and is stamped, as shown, with the bars a, each of which has at its inner end a locking-lug 1), adapted to fit 3 5 an opening in the boiler portion and being bent flat on the inside of the boiler to hold the frame in position.
The blank'of which the main portion of the forward frame is made is shown in Fig. 2.
40 It is provided with the rear side arms 0,
which are cut out and bent down and riveted to the central or boiler part A. The front side portions d are bent down and formed with lugs e to engage the footboard C, while the seat portion D is riveted to the cross-plate F between the side bars d. The portion between the rear side arms 0 is out out, as shown, and the rear part 9 is bent upwardly and has lugs h fitting in openings in 5 the part A and flattened outto hold the frame in position.
As h'eretofore stated, the principal feature of the invention is the construction of the forward frame, the way it is cut out and formed up and fastened to the body, making 5 5 a simple and inexpensive and strong construction. It will be understood that this frame may be supported on the usual carrying-wheels and may be motor or manually operated.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. In a toy fire-engine, the combination With the central portion, the forward frame having the rear side arms, front side portions, said rear side arms being secured to the central portion of the engine and an upwardlyeXtending rear portion on the said forward frame having lugs h adapted to engage openings in the central portion of the engine, substantially as described.
2. In a toy fire-engine the combination with the central portion, the forward frame having the rear side arms secured to said cen- 7 5 tral portion and the upwardly-extending rear portion provided with lugs, adapted to enter openings in the central portion and to be bent down to grip said central portion, said forward frame having also the front downwardly-extending side arms, a footboard attached to said front downwardlyeXtending side arms, a cross-plate between said side arms and a seat attached to said cross-plate, substantially as described. 3. In a toy fire-engine, the combination of the central portion, the forward frame hav 'ing'the rear side arms, front side portions,
said rear side arms-being secured to the central portion of the engine, and an upwardly- 0 extending rear portion on the forward frame having lugs h adapted to be secured to the central portion of the engine; substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I afiiX my signature in presence of two witnesses.
HARRY T. KINGSBURY.
