DRlNKlNG-STRAW.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented l )ec. 5, 1905.
ailman fi1ed August.18,1 905. serial No. 274,710.
i To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that 1, WILLIAM HENRY DE- wENDER, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Drinking-Straw, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description. This invention relates particularly to inuprovements in straws or tubes designed for convenience in drinking liquid from a bottle, the object being to provide a straw or tube designed to extend to the bottom of thebottle and having thereon a closure for the bottle-mouth to prevent the entrance of dust or other matter floating in the air.
I will describe a drinking-straw embodying myv invention and then point out the novel features in the appended claims.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this specification,
. in which the figure is a perspective view showing a bottle with a drinking-straw embodying my invention therein and also showing a straw outside of the bottle.
Referring to the drawing, 1 designates the straw, which may be an ordinary grain-straw or manufacturedfrom prepared paper. When in use, the lower end of the straw is designed to rest upon the bottom of the bottle, as indicated in the drawing, and to permitthe entrance of liquid the said lower end is beveled off, as indicated at 2, thus providing a lateral inlet. Arranged on the straw is a disk-like closure 3 for closing the mouth of the bottle to prevent the entrance of dirt, dust, or the like. This closure is adjustable lengthwise of the straw, thus permitting the straw to be used with bottles of diflerent lengths.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. A drinking-straw and a bottle-mouth closure thereon.
2. A drinking-straw and a bottle-mouth closure adjustable lengthwise thereof.
3. A drink-straw having its lower end bev-' eled to, form a lateral opening, and a closuredisk slidable on the straw.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name WILLIAM HENRY DEWENDER.
