citizen of the UnitedStates of America, and

a resident of East Orange, in the State of New Jersey, have invented'a new and useful .Improvement in Bottle Seals, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to means-for securing the closures of bottles; jugs, demijohns, carboys, and the like; all. of which are herein termed bottles, against violation by insuring the detection of any tampering therewith.

seal part b, of suitable soft metal, known as lead,-cfast on one end of said shackle and perforated for the passage of the other shackle end there'through, and a pair of stamped strips 0 and d, of tin-plate (tin) or other sufli-' cientlystifi' sheet metal, which are the prinlength and are there fixedly united with each other by a plurality of eyelet-punchings 5,. extending-through both strips. Before they are so united each strip isprovided with a pair of deep indentations forming projections 6 to contact with the cap G on both sides of the intersection of the strips, alsowith permanent bends 7 and 8, fitted, respectively, to the lip 2 cipal partsand are of one and the same pattern. Said strips 0 and d cross each other at mid-- and shoulder 3 of the size and style of bottle for which a given pattern of seal is intended,

and, finally, with extremities 9, having outwardly projecting staples lointegral therewith, through which the shackle a extends.

The parts'of the seal are conveniently united with each other, as in Figs. 1, 2, and 3, at the factory, and the seal A as a wholeis quickly applied tothe filledbottle B, as in Fig. 1, at

strip extremities 9. In opening the bottle the shackle a is cut or broken, and the seal part b examined to determine the integrity of the contents.

The shackle a-and seal part b may obviously beof any known or improved make, and other like modifications will suggest themselves to those skilled in the art.

Having thus-described said improvement, I claim as my invention anddesire to patent under this specification- 1. A bottle-seal having, in combination with a flexible neck-embracing shackle, and a seal part for inseparably uniting the ends'of said shackle, a pair oE'cap-forming strips crossed at mid-length and each provided with deep in- IIO dentations on both sides of their intersection forming projections to contact with a disk within the mouth of the bottle and permanent bends adapting them to interlock with a shoulder at the lower extremity of the head of the bottle, and further provided at their lower ends with means whereby they are interlocked with said shackle.

2. Abottle-seal having, in combination with a flexible neck-embracing shackle, and a seal part for inseparably uniting the ends of said shackle, a pair of cap-forming strips crossed and united with each other at mid-length and each provided with deep indentations on both sides of their intersection forming projections to contact with a disk within the mouth of the bottle and permanent bends adapting them to interlock with a shoulder at the lower extremity of the head of the bottle, and further provided at their lower ends with means whereby they are interlocked with said shackle.

3. A bottle-seal having,- in combination with a flexible neck-embracing shackle, and a seal part for inseparably uniting the ends of said shackle, a pair of cap-forming strips crossed and fixedly united with each other at midlength and each provided with deep indentations on both sides of their intersection forming projections to contact with a disk within the mouth of the bottle and permanent bonds adapting them tointerlock with a shoulder at the lower extremity of the head of the bottle, and further provided at their lower ends with outwardly-projecting staples integral with the strips through which said shackle extends around the neck of the bottle below said shoulder, substantially as hereinbefore specified.
