My invention may be used in connection with a ladder of any kind; but it is particu-- larly adapted to be used in connection with ladders which are arranged to move parallel with the shelving in a store.

The objects of my invention are to provide a platform attachment which will be extremely simple in construction and at thesa'me time neat and strong.

It-is also the object of my invention to so construct the attachment that it can readily be folded up against the ladder, so that it will be easy to pass the attachment in going up or coming down the ladder.

Still another object of my invention is to so construct theattachment that it can readily be knocked down for shipment and can be again assembled by any one without the use of tools or any special mechanical knowledge.

In the accompanying drawings, which illustrate an attachment made in accordance with my invention, together with a ladder with which the same is used, Figure 1 is aside elevation showing theattachment in position on a ladder. Fig. 21s a view showing the method of folding the attachment against the ladder. Fig. 3 is an enlarged section. Fig. 4 is an isometric projection; and Fig. 5 is a top plan View, the ladder beingshown in section.

10 represents store-shelving, adjacent to which is arranged the ladder, composed of uprights 11 and steps or rungs 12. The ladder is provided in the usual manner with upper rollers 14: and lower rollers 15, by means of which the ladder may be moved along parallel to the shelving 10. The above-described parts may be of any usual and well-known construction.

The attachment consists of a platform proper, two hangers, and a cross bar or rod. 16 is the cross bar or rod, which is adapted to bear against the rear edgesof the uprights 11 of the ladder when the attachment is in operative position. This rod 16passes through loops 17, formed in spring steel rods or heavy .wires ofwhich the hangers are formed. The rods or wires of which the hangers are formed extend from the loops 17, soas to form a portion 18, adapted to rest upon one of the steps or rungs 12 of the ladder. Extending downwardlyand forwardly from the portions 18 is a triangular portion 19, into which the platform proper, 20, is adapted to be sprung. In order to hold the platform 20 in position, it

is provided with notches 21, which engage 1 with the sides of the-triangular part 19.

It will be readily seen that my attachment can be applied at any point in the height of the ladder by simply turning the attachment diagonally, so that the rod 16 can be passed through the opening between two steps. The rod 16 is then allowed to bear against the rear edges of the uprights 11, while the horizontal portions 18 ofthe two hangers will bear upon one of the steps and the rear edge of the platform 20 will bear against the front edges of e the uprights ll at a point considerably below the step on which the parts 18 bear, thus forming a rigid support. 'VVhen it is desired to pass up or down the ladder, the bar or rod 16 can be moved away from its bearing upon the rear face'of the ladder, so that the attachment will assume the position shown in Fig. 2, so that it will be practically entirely out of the way of the person ascending or descending the ladder. 1

When it is desired to pack the attachment for shipping or other purposes, the rod 16 is simply withdrawn from the loops 1? and the platform 20 sprung out of engagement with the triangular portion 19 of the hangers. The entire'device can then be packed flat.

Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is

1. The combinationwith a bar adapted to bear against the rear of a ladder, of hangers carried by said bar and arranged to pass between the sides of the ladder so that the device will fold against the ladder, and a platform carried by said hangers and adapted to bear against the front-of the ladder.

2. The combination with a bar adapted to bear against the rear of a ladder, of hangers carried by said bar and substantially parallel with the sides of the ladder, said hangers being adapted to pass between the sides of the ladder .IIO

3. The combination with hangers adapted to bear on a step or rung ofa ladder, of a bar secured to said hangers and adapted to bear on the rear of said ladder above said step or rung,

and a platform carried by said hangers and' adapted to bear on the front of said ladder below such step or rung.
