Description

PATENTED NOV. 28, 1905.
v P. J. MALONE.
MANUFACTURE OF ROOF DENTAL PLATES.
APPLICATION FILED APR. 26, 1905.
, UNITED STATES PATENT oEEIoE. PETER MALONE, OF ALIOON A, PENNSYLVANIA. MANUFACTURE OF ROOF DEN'I 'AL PLATES.
, Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented. Nov. 28, 1905.
Application filed April 26, 1905- Serial No 257,478-
.lo all Zak/0112, it may concern:
Be it known that I, PETER J. MALONE, a'citizen of the United States, residing at Altoona, in
. which the following is a specification.
.product of said invention.
My invention relates to improvements in. the manufacture of dental plates particularly for the roof of the mouth.
It has for its object especially to sharply or clearly define just those portions of the roof of the mouth with which the effective edges of the dental plate may engage to secure the requisite impinging or retaining action therefor to prevent the displacement or dropping out of the mouth of said plate and yet reduce to the minimum any discomfort arising from the use thereof. I
The nature of my invention consists of so producing the model as to provide for the molding of the plate that the latter shall be effectively retained in place in the mouth.
In the accompanying drawings,'Figure 1 is a perspective view of the model produced upon the lines for carrying out my invention. Fig. 2 is a dental plate which is the resultant or Fig. 3 is a crosssection of said model.
In the disclosure of myinvention I take the required impression of the roof or upper part I of the mouth upon the required material, such being effected in the usual way, as well un derstood by those conversant .with this art.
In making or producing this impression with the view of obtaining a model 1 thereof care should be taken to note that in said impression certain lateral outlines 2 shall clearly appear therein which are common to the interior or roof of the normal mouth. These outlines are suggestive or indicative of relatively soft or cartilaginous parts intermediately of the bone and gum portions, as has been practically demonstrated, andwith the view of unerringly locating and effecting engagement therebetween and the effective edges 3 of the dental plate 3 is the purpose of this invention. With said edges of said plate thus disposed with relation to the roof-of the mouth an effective impinging action is produced whereby the use of the ordinary air-chamber or suction action is not required, while ease and'comfort are promoted, which would not be experienced with the plate edges in contact with the bone or gum por'tions of the mouth, as is apparent. I
I have found in the practice of my inven-' tion that the dental plates formed thereby invariably retain their grip in the mouth as against dislodgment from any of the usual causeswhich have resulted in the displacement of those plates heretofore in use which have come under my observation.
I claim A dental-plate mold having the roof-mouth impression, with the inner surface thereof for producing the gum portions, formed with a continuous lateral indentation or recess inter mediately of the roof impression proper and the outer extremities of said gum-producing portion.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
PETER J. MALONE.
