HENRY A. .HETTINGER, o E BRIDGETON, NEW JERSEY. COMBINED MOUNT AND DERRICK FOR ENGINES AND WINDING-SPOOLS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 28, 1905.
- Application filed December 2, 1904. Serial Ne. 235,271.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY A. HETTINGER, a citizen of the United States, residingatBridgeton, in the county of Cumberland and State'of New Jersey, haveinvented new and useful Improvements in a Combined Mount and Derrick for Engines and Winding-Spools,of which the following is a specification.
This invention has relation to combined mount and derrick for engines and windingspools; and it consists in the novel construction and arrangement of its parts, as hereinafter shown and described.
The object of the invention is to provide a mount upon which the engine and the winding-spools may be located, said mount having attached thereto a post which forms a derrick and extends vertically between the spools. A cap is provided for said post, from which extends suitable braces to the base of the mount.
The device is especially adapted to be used on vessels for hoisting and is especially desirable for use on oyster-boats, as the entire device may be easily and readily shifted from one part of the deck to another.
In the accompanyingdrawings, Figure 1 is a side elevation of an engine and windingspools located upon the mount. Fig. 2 is an end elevation of the spools, showing the engine in the background and located upon the mount. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the mount.
The mount consists of the horizontal parallel pieces 1 1. The engine 2 is located upon the said pieces, as are also the winding-spools 3 3. The engine is so geared to the said spools as to operate the same for winding the ropes.
The cross-piece 4e connects the two parallel pieces 1 1, and the post 5 is erected from the middle of the cross-piece 4 and extends vertically between the spools 3 3. The cap 6 is located on top of the post 5, and the upper ends of the braces 7 are attached to said cap 6, and the lower ends of the said braces are bolted to the outer sides ofthe pieces 1 1.- The blocks 8 8 are hooked to the cap 6 The ropes (not shown in the drawings) pass over the blocks 8 8 and around the spools 3 3. It is obvious that as the said spools 3 3 are turned the said ropes are let out or pulled in.
' I lay no claim to the form of engine or spools, but do claim as my invention the particular form of mount shown and described and used asa foundation for an engine and spools and having a derrick attachment.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is p In combination with an engine and a pair of spools geared thereto, horizontal parallel pieces serving as a base for the engine and spools, a cross-piece. connecting said parallel pieces, a post erected upon said cross-piece and extending vertically between the spools and braces extending from the upper portion of said post and being secured at their lower ends to the outer sides of the parallel basepieces.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
