Be it known that I, PHILLIP H. STROHMIN- GER, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Mansfield, in the county of litichland and State of Ohio, have invented a new and Improved Snatch-Block, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

The invention relates to a snatch-block intended particularly for use by electric linemen, although it is useful in other connections, as will be apparent to persons skilled in the art.

The object of my invention is to enable the snatch-block to be cheaply and durably constructed, at the saine time avoidingl the possibility of the block becoming accidentally unfastened, this being an important desideratum in case the block is used by electric linenien.

This invention resides in certain novel features of construction, which will be fully set forth hereinafter, and pointed out in the claims.

The block comprises a frame a, which is preferably of metal and carries a pin on twhich. is mounted a sheave c. The frame a is lll-shaped, as shown in Fig. 2, and each arm of the frame terminates in an eye d. The becket-links are two in number, and they are respectively carried loosely in the eyes d, so that said links may swing freely from the closed position indicated by full lines in Fig. 2 to the open position shown by broken lines. Said links are provided on their inner faces with shouldersf, and these are adapted to abut against each other when the links are in closed position, so as to prevent the parts of the links engaged with the eyes d from moving excessively toward each other, and thus compressing, bending, or otherwise injuring the frame a. lithout these stops f the ends of the links in the eyes (Z would tend to draw together, thus bending the frame c out of its proper shape. The stops, however, hold the bccket-linksfin the closed position shown in the drawings and prevent any destructive strain on the strap. The becketlinks are held in closed position by the rope, cable, or other connection which is attached to the block. This attachment may, for example, be the hook, (indicated at (7 in the drawings.) ln Fig. 2 the becketlinks are shown by broken lines as spread. apart, which permits the block to be thrown over the line or cable in connection with which it is used. After this has been done the becket-links should be moved toward each other and engaged with the hook g or with any other means in connection. with which the block is used, said means tending to hold the links in closed position by the strain on the block. This strain, however, is prevented freni exerting a destructive influence on the frame a by means of the stops f', before described.

Having thus described the preferred form. of my invention, what l claim as new, and desire to secure by LettersPatent, is-

1. A snatch-block comprising a frame, a sheave mounted thereon, and becket-links mounted to swing on the frame at opposite sides of the sheave, said becket-links being adapted to beA engaged together when in closed position.

2. A snatch-block comprising a frame and sheave, and becket-links mounted to swing thereon in and out of engagement with each other, said becket-links having shoulders on their adjacent faces, the shoulders being adapted to engage together to limit the inward movement of the becket-links.

A snatch-block having a frame, a sheave mounted thereon, and becket-links mounted to swing on the snatch-block toward and from each other to open and close the same, the links being engaged at one end with the frame of the block and having shoulders intermediate their ends, said shoulders lying at the adjacent sides of the links to limit the inward movement thereof.

4. A snatch-block comprising a frame, a sheave mounted thereon, and becket-links mounted to swing on the frame, said becketlinks having shoulders on their adj accnt faces, the shoulders being adapted to engage each other to limit the inward movement of IOO the links, and said shoulders having their engaging faces lying in planes at angles to the planes of the links, whereby to maintain the links when engaged in angular relation to each other.
