Description
PATENTED OCT. 81, 1905.
E. PYLE.
GHBGKREIN HOLDER.
APPLICATION FILED AUG. 25, 1904.
UNITED STATES EDWARD PYLE, OF LINCOLN, NEBRASKA.
CHECKRElN-HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 31, 1905.
Application filed August 25,1904. Serial No. 222,116.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, EDWARD PYLE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Lincoln, in the county of Lancaster and State of Nebraska, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Checkrein -Holders, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to checkrein-holders for harness-saddles, and has for its object the provision of an improved device in which the holder is readily applied to and removed from the harness-saddle and also in the peculiar construction of holder. consisting of a pin or post having a head conoidal in shape, over which the loop is passed in securing it in position and which will permit the loop to be quickly detached from the pin or post.
The construction and advantages of my invention will be explained in detail hereinafter and are illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a view showing the harnesssaddle in section, the holder secured thereto, and the end of the checkrein in position; and Fig. 2, a vertical sectional view of the pin or post.
In the drawings similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views.
A represents the harness-saddle, having a bolt B secured therein, with a head C to prevent it from pulling out of the saddle and its stem D formed with a rectangular portion E to prevent it from being turned. The end of stem D is screw-threaded, as shown at F.
G represents a pin or post having a screwthreaded bore H to receive the screw-threaded end of stem D, the base of pin or post G being formed with anut-like surface I to receive a wrench in securing the pin or post in position or unfastening it. The head of pin or post G is conoidal in shape, having an outwardly and upwardly curved surface J and an inwardly and upwardly slanting portion K, which ends in a point L.
It will be readily seen that my improved holder possessesthe advantage of being readily secured and removed from the harness-saddle, while the peculiar construction of the head permits the loop on the end of the checkrein to be readily applied to and removed from the pin or post G.
I have shown and described the head of pin G as being conoidal in shape; but it is readily apparent that it may be-made spherical or pyramidal in shape, the pyramidal construction being with any number of faces desired without-departing from the spirit of the invention.
It will also be apparent that the bolt B may be dispensed with and a threaded extension formed on the bottom of pin G to receive a nut to secure thedevice to the harness-saddle instead of the construction shown in the drawings without changing the scope or spirit of my invention.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is- In acheckrein-holder, ascrew-threaded bolt secured to the harness-saddle, a pin or post having a screw-threaded socket to receive said screw-threaded bolt, and a conoidal-shaped head integral with said pin or post, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony whereof I hereto afliX my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
EDWARD PYLE.
