SAW-SET.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 24, 1905.
Application filed November 4, 1904. fierial No. 231.390.
To (all wit/1117 it may concern:
Be it known that I. OHARLEs W. GRAY, a citizen oi the United States, residing at Fremont, in the county of Sandusky and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Saw-Sets; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The object of this invention is to provide a simple, cheap, and eflieient saw-set.
The invention consists in the construction hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanyingdrawings, illustrating an embodiment of the invention, Figure 1 is a side elevation. Fig. 2 is a central vertical sectional View taken in the plane w m, Fig. 3. Fig. 3 is a plan view with the gage-screw removed. Fig. 4: is a perspective view.
1 designates the stem or shank. This is reduced at its lower end to form a leg 1 and a square shoulder 1". The shoulder 1. is formed with a dihedral notch, the sides of which are of triangular form. Shrunk or secured on the lower end of the shank is a collar 2, the lower face of which is flush with the face 01. the square shoulder 1". The inner side of the collar in conjunction with the notch thus forms a socket of trihedral form, but at the apex. of the trihedron I provide a small supplemental socket 2 of greater size than the end of the tooth extending into the collar.
. The leg 1 is provided at its lower end with an adjustable gage-screw 3, extending there through at right angles, and this screw can be looked after adjustment by means of a nut 3", pinching the leg and binding the screw in the position to which it is adjusted.
In practice let 5 designate a saw-blade having a tooth to be set. By driving the device down on the tooth the latter is bent and set, as depicted in Fig. 2. The position of the gage-screw 3 determines the angle to which the saw-tooth will be bent. This angle can be varied by adjustingthe screw. The socket beyond the apex of the trihedral socket, be cause it is of greater size than the point of the tooth, prevents dulling such tooth.
Oomprehensively the shank and collar 2 may be treated as a unitary or integral structure and the lower face of the collar and the shoulder of the shank as a shoulder.
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
In a saw-set, the combination of a shank having a leg provided with an adjustable gage, a shoulder on said shank and a trihedral socket between said shank and shoulder enlarged at its apex to greater size than the point of the tooth to be treated by the sawset, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof .I aiiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
