(No Model.)
H. L. KINOAID.
COMBINATION TOOL.
No. 402,939. Patented May 7, 1889.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HENRY L. KINCAID, OF STELLA, IVASHINGTON TERRITORY.
COMBINATION-TOOL.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 402,939, dated May '7, 1889.
Application filed February 8, 1889. Qerial No. 299,131. (No model.)
To all whom, it may concern.-
Be it known that I, HENRY L. KINOAID, a resident of Stella, in the county of Oowlitz and Territory of Washington, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combination-Tools; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use the same.
My invention is an improved combined sawgage, saw-set, and hammer; and it consists in the peculiar construction of parts, that will be more fully set forth hereinafter, and particularly pointed out in the claim.
The object of my invention is to provide a combined sawgage, sawset, and hammer, which is extremely simple in construction, is entirely efficient, and which may be manufactured at a very small cost.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is aperspective view of a combined tool embodyin g my improvements. Fig. 2 is an elevation of the same, showing the manner of using it as a saw-gage. Fig. 3 is a similar view of the same, showing the manner of using it as a saw-set.
A represents the handle, which is swelled or enlarged at one end to form a head, B, in one side of which is cut an open slot, 0, of sufficient depth and breadth to receive the tooth of a saw, and at the inner end of the slot and communicating therewith is a transverse cylindrical opening, D, of sufficient diameter to clear the swaged point of the sawtooth.
From one corner of the head B projects an arm, E, the outer end of which is enlarged to form a hammer-head, F. On the outer end of the head are formed a set of three legs or 40 studs, G, which are arranged in the form of a triangle and have their points arranged in the same plane.
An opening, H, is made transversely through the hammer-head in a plane parallel with the handle. A screw or gage stud, I, is screwed into the said opening.
By inserting the tooth of a saw into the notch or slot 0 and using the handle as a lever, as shown in Fig. 3, the tooth maybe bent or set at any desired inclination.
By placing the legs or studs G on the side of the saw, so that the hammer-head projects over the saw-tooth in such manner as to cause the gage stud or screw I to engage the point thereof, as represented in Fig. 2, the exact relative inclination of the saw-tooth may be determined.
The tool may be made of either cast or Wrought metal, as may be preferred. Its sim- 6o plicity, cheapness, and utility are obvious.
Having thus described my invention, I claim The combined hammer, saw set and gage, comprising the handle, the head B, having the slot 0, the legs G, formed on the outer end of the head, and the hammer-head projecting from the head B, said hammer-head having the gage stud or screw 1 engaging a threaded opening therein, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
H. L. KINCAID.
