Snow Woe NITED? STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FRANK HANNA, OF SANTA ANA, CALIFORNIA, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-FOURTH TO JOHN BEATTY, JR, OF SAME PLACE.
SAW-SET.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 640,131, dated December 26, 1899. Application filed August 25, 1899. Serial No. 728,460. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANK HANNA, a citizen of the United States, residing at Santa Ana, in the county of Orange and State of California, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Saw-Sets, of which the following is aspecification.
My invention relates to saw-sets, and has for its object to provide a strong, simple, and cheap saw-set that can be used 011 saws of different sizes with equal ease and that is very easy of adjustment to the angle at which the teeth are to be set. This object I accomplish in the manner and by the means hereinafter more fully described in detail, and particularly pointed out in the claims, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which like reference-letters indicate like parts in all the figures.
Figure 1 is a front view of my invention. Fig. 2 is a top plan view of same. Fig. 3 is a sectional view on line a: m, Fig. 1.
My invention consists of a saw-set in one solid piece, the central portion A of which is triangular in cross-section, the apex of the triangle being at the bottom, and has roughened sides a to engage the saw-teeth and prevent the saw-set from slipping. On each side of said central portionAthe saw-set is formed into a handle B. Just at one side of the said central portion A is a projection G from the bottom of the saw-set, and through this projection O, diagonally to the longitudinal axis of the saw-set, is a screwthreaded hole 0. A
screw D works in the hole 0 and adjusts the amount of set to be given the saw-teeth.
The operation of my invention is as follows: The operator places the portion A between two of the teeth to be set and, having adjusted the screw D as desired, twists the saw-set by the handles B until the screw D strikes the saw. This sets two teeth. The instrument is then placed between the next two unset teeth and the same process repeated.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A saw-set having a central portion trian gular in cross-section with roughened sides, handles extending from said central portion, a perforated projection and a set-screw Working in said projection, substantially as shown and described.
2. A saw-set having a central portion triangular in cross-section with roughened sides, handles extending from said central portion, a perforated projection from the lower edge of said saw-set at one side of said central portion and a set-screw working in said projection, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony whereof I hereto affix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
FRANK HANNA.
