WlNDOW-SHADE HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 24, 1905.
Application filed November 28, 1902. Serial No. 132,976-
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN ROBERT HAMER, a citizen of the United States, residing at New Bedford, in the county of Bristol and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Window-Shade Holders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in window-shade holders; and it has for its object, among others, to provide a simple and cheap yet durable and efficient form of shade-holder that can be readily adjusted for any width of shade and securely held in adjusted position. It is composed of minimum parts those readily affixed in position and serving to securely hold the shaderoller in its adjusted position.
The holder can be made as ornamental as may be desired, and it can be readily affixed in position and adjusted by any one.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will hereinafter appear, and the novel features thereof will be particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
The invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawings, which, with the numerals of reference marked thereon, form a 8 for the passage of screws or other means employed for securing it in position, as seen in Fig. 1. The side walls 4 of this bracket or casting terminate at their upper ends in the inwardly-extending flanges 5, as seen most clearly in Figs. 2 and 3.
6 is a solid member or base of substantially the same width asthe space between the side walls 4 of the bracket or casting 1, as seen in Figs. 2 and 3, and having its inner end beveled, as at 6, whereby it is more readily placed within the bracket 1. At its outer end the base is provided with an upright portion 7, provided with an opening 8, to receive the pintle on the end of the shade-roller. This upright portion is provided with slots or notches 9 at points opposite the flanges 5 of the bracket or casting 1 to receive said flanges, so that the member 6 may be slid upon the base 2 of the bracket or casting 1. These notches 9 aline with the longitudinal recesses or cut-out portions 6 of the member 6and in which the flanges 5 are snugly received.
10 is a set-screw mounted in the member 6 and adapted to engage the upper face of the base 2, as seen in Fig. 4-, to hold the member 6 in adjusted position.
In Figs. 3 and 4 the member 11 is similar to the member 6 above described, except that its upright portion 12 is provided with the lateral slot 13 to receive the pintle on the other end of the shade-roller. It is provided with a set-screw 14 for the same purpose as the set-screw 10 in the construction above described.
In practice one of the brackets or castings is secured in position upon the window-frame at each side thereof, as seen in Fig. 1. The parts or members 6 and 11 are then adjusted in accordance with the width of the windowshade roller and then securely lixed in position by turning up the said screws. The parts 7 and 12 will then be securely held in proper position, when the pintles of the shade-roller can be engaged in the opening 8 and slot 13 in the usual way.
It will thus be seen that I have devised a simple and cheap form of adjustable windowshade holder readily applied to any and all forms of window-frames; but it is also evident that modifications in detail may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention or sacrificing any of its advantages.
What is claimed as new is- An adjustable shade-holder comprising a base formed with an undercut slot extending the entire length thereof, and with screw-holes in said base adjacent the ends, said screw-holes being adapted to receive securing-screws to be flush with the bottom of the slot, a solid sliding member having its top side edges reduced so as to be received in said base-slot, the top of said sliding member having its front top edge beveled and carrying at its rear edge In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in presence of tWo wltnesses.
JOHN ROBERT HAMER.
