MARION S. CROSS, OF DENVER, COLORADO.
COMBINED FLOUR-SACK HOLDER AND SIF TER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 3, 1905.
Application filed October 23, 1903. Renewed February 27, 1905. Serial No. 247,426.
To a whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MARION S. Cnoss, acitizen of the United States of America, residing in the city and county of Denver and State of Colorado, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Combined Flour- Sack Holder and Sifter; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to a flour-sack holder and sifter, my object being to provide a device adapted to receive the open end' of a flour-sack and so constructed that the sack fills the mouth of the device, whereby the sack may be left in the device and in the inverted position. Below the mouth of the sack is located a rotary sifter of any ordinary construction, while between the mouth of the sack and the sifter is located a shield to prevent the mouth of the sack from interfering with the operation of the rotary part of the sifting device. Below the axle of the rotary part is located a screen of ordinary construction, and below the screen there may be either a hinged plate or a drawer or receptacle for receiving the sifted flour or meal.
Having briefly outlined my improved construction, as well as the function it is intended to perform, I will proceed to describe the same in detail, reference being made to the accompanying drawings, in which is illustrated an embodiment thereof.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a vertical section taken through my invention, shown in the form of a three-compartment device. Fig. 2 is a section taken through a single-compartment device, viewed at right angles to Fig. 1 in order to show the handle of the rotary part. Fig. 3 is a top or plan view of the construction shown in Fig. 2, the flour-sack being removed and no attempt being made to show the sifting device below the shield.
The same reference characters indicate the same parts in all the views.
Referring first to Fig. 1, let A designate a suitable receptacle having end and side walls A and A respectively, and a bottom provided with openings which are covered by screens A, which are curved downwardly or of semicircular shape. The space inclosed by the outer walls of the device is divided into three compartments by two partitions A*. In each of these compartments is journaled an axle A" upon which is mounted the ordinary curved stirring or agitating wires A. The axle A projects beyond one of the side walls of the structure and is provided with a handle A (See Fig. 20f the drawings.) Above each of the sifters is located a shield A preferably composed of wires which cross at the center, as shown in Fig. 3 of the drawings, in order to prevent the mouth of the sack from interfering with the rotary part of the sifting device. Below each screen A of each compartment, referring now especially to Fig. 1, the device is provided with a bottom A, hinged to the body of the device, as shown at A and supported by a spring-catch A but in the closed position. In the use of this form of the device a number of sacks containing dififerent kinds of flour maybe placed in the several compartments and in the inverted position, the mouth of the sack being open to allow the flour to pass freely to the sifter when the latter is rotated. WVhen a person desires to obtain flour from any one of these compartments, he. simply opens the hinged bottom part A and places a receptacle underneath while he turns the rotary agitator.
The construction shown in Fig. 2 is adapted for use with a single sack only. The upper part of the body of this device may be designated A. The axle of the rotary agitator being the same as shown in Fig. 1 will be designated by the same reference character that is to say, A while the agitatingarmswill be designated A, and the screen below as A The shield being substantially of the same construction as shown in Fig. 1 will also be designated as A Below the screen the body of this form of device is provided with a base A, which is closed at the bottom, as shown at A, and open on one side to receive a sort of drawer A, which receives the sifted fiour falling from the screen A. This drawer A is provided with a handle A to facilitate the insertion and removal of the same.
In the construction shown in Fig. l the two end walls of the device are provided with parts A, provided with openings whereby the said device may be hung upon any suitable support. This construction that is to say, the construction shown in Fig. 1-is supposed to be suspended in any suitable manner, while the construction shown in Fig. 2 rests upon the base part A, which may be placed upon any suitable support.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is A combined flour-sack holder and Sifter,
comprising a receptacle open at the top to receive a flour-sack, an agitator located below the mouth of the sack, a screen located below the agitator, and a shield interposed between
