CHARLES H. MURPI-IEY, OF MADISONVILLE, KENTUCKY.
BOTTLE-WASH ER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 424,894, dated April 1, 1890.
Application filed January 11, 1890.
a citizen of the United States of America, re-- siding at Madisonville, in the county of Hopkins and State of Kentucky, have invented a new and useful Bottle-\Vasher, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in the general construction of bottle-washers, and particularly of that class of apparatus embodying a force-pump and a funnel-shaped bottle-holder.
Myinvention therefore consists in the novel construction of parts and their combination, as will be hereinafter fully described, and specially as the same is laid in the claims.
I have fully and clearly illustrated my invention in the accompanying drawings, wherein-- Figure 1 is a longitudinal central section of the casing through the lid and funnel and showing the force-pump. Fig. 2 is a similar view showing the lid in place and the relative position of the end of the funnel and tip of the jet-pipe. Fig. 3 is a detail view of the funnel or bottle-holder. v Fig. 4 is a view of the modified bottle-holder.
A designates a sheet-metal vessel of such capacity as may be desired. This vessel is provided with a partition 1, dividing itnnto two compartments, and in the partition 1s an aperture covered with a screen 2, through which the water discharged into the compartment 3 from the jet-pipe flows back into the pump-compartment. I
On the part comprising the pump chamber or compartment is fixed a cover 4, having an aperture through which the piston-rod of the pump projects and slides.
B designates the force-pump, arranged in the compartment 5 of the vessel, and having the discharge-pipe 6, leading through the partition into the compartment 3, and having the end turned upward and provided with a j et-piece 6 terminating below the end of the funnel and in alignment with it 111 vertical relation.
G designates a hinged cover or lid closing the compartment 3, and having fixed 1n 1t a funnel-shaped bottle-holder D. This bottleholder is of particular construction and adapted or formed in both its body or upper Serial No. 336,633. (No model.)
part and in its stem or lower part to freely permit the escape of the water. To this end the body 7 of the funnel consists of a metal plate having formed therein a number of slots 8, extending from near the bottom edge of the plate to its upper edge. The upper edge of the body-plate is soldered or otherwise secured to the lid 0, about an aperture 9 therein, and the lower end of the plate is cemented to an annular disk 10, preferably made curved in cross-section, as shown, to strengthen the parts and to afford a better seat for whatever may be set therein.
To the opening of the annular disk 10 is secured the stem 11 of the funnel or holder, consisting of a number of metal strips 12, having openings between them and fastened at their lower ends by means of a band 13, or
the metal at the point need not be entirely severed, and thus form the band to hold the strips together. It will be observed that by this form or construction of tunnel or holder the water escapes from both the upper portion and from the lower portion, both portions -or the whole of the funnel or holder being below the lid of the vessel. This makes a cleanly apparatus, as all of the injected liquid is discharged into the vessel below. The funnel being fixed in the hinged cover makes it permanent in position and at the same time does not interfere in the least with obtaining access to the interior of the vessel whenever desired.
The top edge of the rim of the bottle-holder is arranged substantially on a level with the surface of the hinged lid and firmly secured and sealed thereto, substantially as shown.
While the bottle-holder is specifically described as having slots or interstices for the free escape of the water, yet in many instances-such as when small bottles are being washed-the body and stem of the bottleholder may be made out of imperforated material, the bore of the stem affording means for the escape of the water from the bottle and holder, as shown in Fig. 4 of the drawings.
Having thus described my invention, as required by the statute, I proceed to particularly point out and distinctly claim the parts and combinations I claim as my invention, as follows:
1. In combination, the vessel having a partition provided with a screen, a pump in one compartment of the vessel, a discharge-pipe projected through the partition and directed vertically with its end terminating below the end of the bottle-holder, a hinged cover on the vessel, and a bottle-holder secured in the hinged lid consisting of a body portion, an annular disk secured to the lower end of the body portion, and a stem centrally secured to and depending from the annular disk, substantially as described.
2. In a bottle-washing machine, the combination, with the water-holdin g vessel, of a hinged lid having secured therein a funnelshaped bottle-holder consisting of a bod y portion having side openings therein, an annular disk secured to the lower end of the body hand in the presence of two attesting wito IIBSSOS.
