TO ALL WHGM IT MAY CON CERN:
Be it known that we, CHARLES WINIERBURN and WILLIAM KENT, of Cincinnati, in the county of Hamilton,
and State of Ohio, have invented new and improved Vapor or Medicated Baths 'n vacuo; and we do hereby i declare that the following is a. lfull, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to' the accompanying drawings," forming part of this-specification. i
The nature odour-invention consists in the application o f electricity to the human 'bodyT-vhilethe latter is in vacuo, as will be hereinaftermorefully described.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use our invention, we will proceed to' describe its construction and operation.
Letters of like nameandkindrefer to like parts in each of" the figures. Y
A represents a box, made ofl wood or other vsuitable material, with the rear-,portion sloping at an angle of about-'sixty degrees. f v
B is the front portion of the box, which is made to litv closely to the main portion, and secured theretolby meansof hooks and eyes, C. Near the bottomtoi' the'i'ront portion of the saidbox is a board or platform, D,
extending back into andvacross the bottom efthe main portion, and supported by braces -E E.
` Upon the upper side of the box A's a. flexible ca -p,O, or opening, through which to admit thehead of the patien-t'whil being treated, es seen at F in the drawings. i i i i y In constructing our apparatus, .ve usually make the base ahoutfforty-iour inches 'longandfabmxt twentyseven inches wide, Vwith an altitude et about forty-four inches, with the upper baseabout' twenty-eight inches long and aboutitventy-seven inches wide,- butthese dimensions maybe varied without materially changing the v results of our invention.'
The opertionconsist's in introducing thopati'ent into tho'box by rein'oving the front portion ,of the v same, then closing it, and securing;-l itfby means of the hooks and eyes, as before described, and by means of l. the elastic rubber packing, secured upon the edgeot' the movable portion of the box, it is rendered air-tight,
so that any kind of medicated vepormay be introduced through the orifice or openingH, and'out of which the air may bo'exhaustd for the purpose of producing avaeuliiu, if desired.
, may be administered as tbe nature of the ease may require.
Gopperwires are also introduced int'o the box for the purpose of administering electricity to or at any parte ofthe body tithe patient that-may be desired, the'battery being representedvin red lines in the drawing, as also .the points of introduction ot' the copper wires.' i '4 It will be understood that the object of exhausting the air from the box iii-that by the'- removal of a portion l of the air, the capillaries are excited toa univexsalaction, and whleundor this inuence such medicated vapors In theordinary admiuistration'of lthese vapors in combination with the vacuum, the'aetion-is upon the capillary system, removing obstructions therefrom; also, by this-combination, diseases caused .by obstructions orderangement are speedily overcome, the partsI aiected are supplied with a sufficiency of'blood and Suolrf:
remedial-agents as the diagnosis of the'casedemands. t
Having thus described our invention, we claim as nciv, and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The application ot electricity to the human body while the latter vis in; eamo.
