GEORGE MALCOLM, OF OAKLAND, CALIFORNIA.
SASH-HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 29, 1905.
Application filed March 6, 1905. Serial No. 248,459.
To all whom it Wto/,y concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE MALcoLM,a citizen of the United States, residing at Oakland, in the county of Alameda and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sash-Locks; and I do hereby declare that the following' is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the annexed d rawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
The present invention has for its object to provide a holder for window-sashes which will be simple in construction and easy of operation and a holder that can be manufactured and placed upon the market at a comparatively small cost, thereby bringing it within the reach of those requiring such an article.
The invention consists in a sash-holder constructed substantially as shown in the drawings and hereinafter described and claimed.
Figure 1 of the drawings is a perspective view of a sash-holder constructed in accordance with my invention; Fig. 2, a side elevation showing the holder applied to the window-sash; Fig. 3, a detail perspective View of the lever with the rubber plug removed; Fig. 4, a perspective View of the rotatable camring; Fig. 5, a similar view of the bracket with bifurcated post.
In the accompanying drawings, A represents the bracket of the holder, having suitable holes or perforations c for attaching it to the upper horizontal rail X of the Window-sash' or to any otherl part of the sash found most preferable. This bracket A has a circular bifurcated post B, with holes or perforations to receive a rivet or pin c for the purpose hereinafter described. Over the post Bis fitted a circular cam-ring C, the post being round at its base and of a diameter substantially equal to the diameter of the circular opening of the cam-ring, so that the post will form a guide for the ring in its rotary movement. The cam upon face of the ring C is shown at d, and said ring has a handle or thumb-piece e for turning the ring to act upon the leverD when the holder is to be operated. The lever D is held in the bifurcation of the post B by the rivet or pin c, which enters the perforations or holes and the holef in the lever, so that the lever will be pivotally held to the post. The lever D has cam-faces g t at its front and back, respectively, as shown more clearly in Fig. 3 ofthe drawings, said cam-faces g tengaging the cam-face d of the cam-ring C, and through the medium of said ring and camfaces the ring when turned will raise or lower y the lever.
The rotatable cam-ring C when turned in the proper direction against the side rail Y of the upper sash will hold the lower sash opened or closed, as found desirable.
The lever D has a socket E at its end to receive a rubber plug F through the side opening z', which opening allows the rubber to project suiiiciently beyond the socket to act against the window-sash, as illustrated in Fig. 2 of the drawings. The socket E has inwardly-projecting claws j, so as to hold securely in the socket the rubber plug F and prevent it from becoming loose.
Having now fully described my invention, what I claim as new,and desire to secure by Letters Patent, isM
A sash-holder,comprisingasuitable bracket with post thereon, a cam-ring encircling the post and having means for turning it, and a lever pivotally connected to the post and carrying cam-faces against which the cam-face of the ring operates, said lever having a socket at its end with inwardly-projecting claws and a rubber plug held therein, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
GEORGE MALCOLM.
