Description

PATENTED AUG. l5. 1905.
No. 79H20.
T. C. RICHARDS. GANDLE SHADE HOLDER.
APPLICATION FILED MAY 8. 1905.
.N VEN TOR liiOli/IAS (l. RICHARDS, OF VVlNSTED, CONNECTICUT.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 15, 19055.
Application tiled May 3, 1905. Serial No. 258,583.
To (all 1071/0171, it 'mf/ty con/cern:
Be it known that l, lnoiuas C. Riermnns, a resident of Winsted, in the county of Litchfield and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful improvements in (landle-tlhadc Holders; and ll do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
lilly invention relates to an improved candleshade holder, the object of the invention beingl to provide improvements of this character with improved mechanism securing the parts together, and, further, to dispense with the use of solder, making a neat and attractive device, as well as one that is strong and durable and comparatively cheap to manufacture.
llfith this object in view the invention consists in certain novel features of construction and combinations and arrangements of parts, as will be more fully hereinafter described, and pointed out in the claims.
ln the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a view in elevation, illustrating my improvements. Figs. 2 and 3 are views in section, taken at right angles to each other; and Figs. et, 5, and 6 are views illustrating' details of construction.
l represents the base-sleeve to [it the candle, which comprises a sleeve contracted at its upper end to rest on the top of the candle, :tlared outward, forming a V(lange 2 at its lower end, and made with an annular web 3 near its lower end. A collar a lits snugly on the sleeve l and is enlarged at its lower portion to receive the flanged lower end 2 of the sleeve l, and a metal ring is clamped below flange 2 by the turned-in lower end of the collar lto give to the holder the necessary weight and stability and add to the attractive appearance thereof.
'.lhe upright shade-supporting` wires (i are :formed of one continuous wire or strip bent into semicircular form between its ends, as shown at 7, to be disposed around the sleeve jl. and clamped between an inwardly-turned flange 8 at the upper end of collar at and the annular web 3 on sleeve l. lhe ends of these supporting-wires extend through notches in `flange 8 at opposite sides of sleeve l and extend up alongside the sleeve l fora short distance and then bent outward at right angles, as shown at 9, and again bent at right angles, as shown at l0, and extend parallel upward and are secured to the shade-supiiiorting ringI ll, as will now be explained.
The ring 1l. provided in opposite sides with slits to receive tongues l2 on the side edges of clamps 13 and when bent outward on the outside of the ringsecure the clamps firmly in place and prevent any pivotal or other movement thereof. These clamps 13 comprise a sheet-metal blank bent at opposite sides to receive the wires b' and form the tongues l2, above referred to. At the lower ends of the clamps enlarged portions la are provided, bent at an angle and slotted to receive the wires before they enter the main body of the clamps and further secure the wires therein.
A great many slight changes might be made in the general form and arrangement of the parts described without departing from my invention, and hence l would have it understood that l do not restrict myself to the precise details set forth, but consider myself at liberty to make such slight changes and alterations as fairly fall within the spirit and scope of my invention.
Having fully described my invention, what l claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
l. A. candle shade holder comprising a sleeve to be inserted over the candle, a collar around the sleeve at its lower end, a weighted ring clamped between the lower end of the sleeve and the collar, and shade-ring-supporting wires secured between the collar and sleeve.
2. il candle-shade holder, comprising a sleeve to be inserted over the candle, flared outward at its lower end and having' an annular web near its lower end, a collar around the sleeve, a ring clamped between the lower end of the sleeve and the turncd-in end of the collar, a wire bent half-way around, the sleeve and clamped between the web and a flange on the 'Lipper edge of the collar and the ends of the wire extending upward and secured to a shade-supporting ring.
3. i candle-shade holder, comprising a sleeve to be inserted on a candle, upright `therein to receive the Wires before entrance into the body portion of the clamps.
In testimony whereof I have signed this speeieaton in the presence of tWo subscribing Witnesses.
THOMAS C. RICHARDS.
