Be it known that 1, James DOWLEN, a citizen of the United States, residingin Seabright, in the county of Monmouth and State of New Jersey, have invented a useful Tub-Lifter, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a contrivance or device for lifting and carrying tubs, especially plant or flower tubs, in an easier manner, as by screwed-on handles or other hitherto-known devices, in placing the said tubs on wagons, greenhouse-stages, and other elevated places without inconvenience to the operators. 1 attain these objects by a contrivance consisting of two exactly-alike apparatuses operated opposite to each other on the tub to be lifted and one of which is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 isa view in perspective of the complete device. Fig. 2 represents the adjustable clutch-arm detached.
A is a vertical bar of malleable iron, on whose bottom or foot end is riveted a curved piece of malleable iron B, bent at each end into an upward-turned clutch '1, intended to be placed under the rim of the tub to be lifted. U is a similar curved piece of malleable iron, as above, with clutches 2, turned downward, intended to be placed over the upper rim of tub. This iron is provided with an eye or slide 3, riveted to its middle, of back or convex side, whereby this iron can be moved up or down on the bar A, thereby enabling the apparatus to take tubs of various heights and holding them securely and avoiding any possible swaying.
D is a handle of wood, which is fastened on one end to the vertical bar A by two bolts to the angle-iron t, which latter is riveted to the vertical bar A.
E is a brace fastened on one end at bottom with a rivet passing through curved iron B and vertical bar A and on the other end to handle .1) by one bolt and one screw.
l'Vhat 1 claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
