B. 1). BLACK. FAUGET EXTRAGTOR.
No. 441,864. Patented Dec. 2, 1890.
nl YERS co., Puma-mum msu u UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ROBERT D. BLACK, OF CONSTANTIA, NEYV YORK, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO GEORGE Ml \VILLIAMS, OF SAME PLACE.
FAUCET-EXTRACTO R.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 441,864, dated December 2, 1890.
Application filed August 4, 1890. Serial No. 361,013. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, ROBERT D. BLACK, of Constantia, in the county of Oswego, in the State ofNeW York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Faucet-Extractors, of
which the following, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, is a full, clear, and exact description. 7
My invention relates to devices and appliances for pulling out or extracting faucets from barrels, casks, or kegs.
My object is to produce an improved faucet-puller comprising two clamping-jaws, one or both of which are pivotally mounted upon an operating-lever, which is mounted upon a foot which rests upon the head of the barrel, cask, or keg.
My invention consists in the several novel features of construction and operation hereinafter described, and which are specifically set forth in the claims annexed hereto. It is constructed as follows, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a side elevation showing the apparatus applied to a faucet, a partof a faucet and keg being shown in dotted lines. Fig. 2 is a top plan thereof.
A is the operating-lever, pivotally mounted upon the foot 1, which stands or bears upon or against the head 2 of the barrel or keg 3.
A concavcd clamping-jaw 4 is pivotally mounted upon the inner end of the lever. The otherconcaved clam ping-j aw 5 is mounted upon the draw-bars 6, the outer ends of which are pivotally connected to the lever upon a bolt 7 passed through it outside of its fulcral bearing upon the foot 1. These draw-bars pass loosely through holes in the rim of the jaw 5, and are threaded to receive the locknuts 8, so that this jaw can be adjusted with relation to the other jaw to adapt the instrument to fit faucets of different sizes.
In operation the jaws, with thelever raised, are placed over the faucet and lowered until the foot rests upon or against the head 2, and
then as the lever is farther forced down the faucet will be lifted and pulled straight outof the head. A fresh grip can be had after withdrawing the faucet part way by raising the lever, and thus lowering the jaws, and then lowering the lever again, as before.
\VhatI claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. The combination, with the handle anda fulcral foot pivotally connected thereto, of a concave jaw pivotally mounted upon the inner end of the lever and another jaw mounted upon draw-hars pivotally connected to the lever. p
2. The combination, with the handle and a fulcral foot pivotally connected thereto, of a concave jaw pivotally mounted upon the inner end of the lever and another jaw adjustably mounted upon draw-bars pivotally con nected to the lever.
3. The combination, with the handle audafulcral foot pivotally connected thereto, of a concave jaw pivotally mounted upon the inner end of the lever and another jaw adjustably mounted upon draw-bars pivotally connected to the lever outside of the fulcral bearing thereof.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand this 22d day of July, 1890.
G. W. SMITH, II. P. DENISON.
