No. 795,64e.
` To all whm'lt tmay concern.-
Be it known that I, HARRY HAMILTON RICH- ARDsoN, a citizen of the United States, resid: ing at Beaverfalls, in the countyof Beaver and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certainnew and useful Improvements in Fish- Line Reels, of which the following is a s peci-v fication.
The object of this invention is to equip a reel/with a spooling attachment in order'that the line may be 4uniformly laid on the spool 'and made movable out of the path of the line yin casti g, soas not to interfere therewith.'
In tl e accompanying drawings. Figure 1 is .an end elevation of my improved {ish-line reel, with a portion of the cas1ng' broken away.

dotted lines. Fig. 3 is a side elevation. Fig. 'Ibis an inner face representation of the casing, showing the arrangement of the gearing. Fig. 5 is a section on dotted line a, Fig. 3.
The heads 1 and 2 are connected by the rods .3. ,'A cap or casing 4 has a connection with the head 2. A spool 5 is supported by the head 1 and casing-4 and has a small toothed pini-on 6 connected to it. A larger toothed wheel 7 is supported bythe casing and meshes A f rame 'is 'composed of the. lower bar 12," two ends,13, and a central depending lug 14.
The lug 14 is located between the ears 11 and has a pivotal connection therewith. This lug has two flattened-surfaces 15, against which a-sprng-rod 16 is adapted to bear for a pur pose to appear hereinafter. The bar 12 has a rib 17 extending in its lengthwise direction Y and alongits upper surface.- --A shaft 18 is :supported by the ends- 13` of the frame and to which is secured a toothed wheel 19. This s'haitis provided with double threads 20, A clamp 2l is supported by the shaft and is provided with the usual dog engagement with the' threads ofthe shaft. The clampfhasa depending projection 2,2, prof.

tion between vthe clamp .and frame. clamp has twoIingers 23 extending from it, each supporting a ball 24. An intermediate toothed wheel 25 is supported by the casing in a manner that it may move radially from the toothed wheel 7, with which it is adapted to engage. rlhe support for this intermediate toothed wheel extends through the casing and has a projection 28 on the outside of the casing. A spring 26 bears againstthe support for the' intermediate toothed wheel 25 and holds the intermediate toothed wheel out of' engagementwit 1 the main driving toothed wheel 7. v
From one of the ends 13 of the frame eX- tends a pin 27. la When the spoolingmechanism is in operative position, the chain of gears 'will be meshed, as shown in solidlines,-Fig. 1, in which the intermediate toothed wheel 25 tion 28..
The spring-rod 16, resting against the fiattened surface 15,- holds the iingers 23 upright, at the same time holding the gear-train in mesh, so that by manipulatingA thehandle the spool is rotated and thev fingers moved back and forth in the lengthwise direction of the .shaft 18, carrying the fish line locate between thelingers back and forth-inthe length- WiseV direction of the spool.` 4
lingers; but the spring action of the fingers Y. allowsA the balls to separate suiiiiently to permitl the passageofthe fish-line in releasing it from between the fingers.
shown in dotted lines, Fifg`s. 1 and 2, the gears traih will be broken by moving the toothed Wheel 19 from the intermediate toothed Wheel 25 and permitting the spring 26 to move the intermediate toothed wheel out 'of mesh with spool may turn withtheleastresistanceeor instance, 1n makmgalcast;
