Description

CLEMENT J. B. MOORE, OF CALISTOGA, CALIFORNIA.
FENCE-POST.'
Specication'of Letters Patent.
Patented July 25, 1905.
Application filed May 2,1904. Serial No. 206,077.
T0 all whom it muy concern:
Beit known that I, CLEMENT J. B. MOORE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Calistoga, in the county of Napa and State of Oalifornia, have invented new and useful Improvements in Fence-Posts` of which the following is a specication.
My invention has relation to improvements in fence-posts, and more particularly to the base-piece which holds the post; and it consists in the construction and arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter described, and particularly pointed out in the claim.
The ligure of the drawing represents a perspective view of the construction.
Referring to the drawing, the numeral l denotes the fence-post, composed of two integral wings which are constructed in rightangular or L-shaped form. On one face of the post I provide a series of V-shaped prongs 2, stamped from said face so as to be arranged one above the other. To these prongs I attach wires 3 and lap or clamp the prongs thereto. The ends of the prongs pass through the openings 4, which are formed by the cutting of the prongs from the face of the post.
The numeral 5 designates a base, preferably made square and of a suiiicient height to carry my structure. The making of the base as above set forth enables me to form on two of its sides a marginal recess 6,V which eX- tends part of the way therethrough. Said recess conforms to the conguration of the shape of the post, whereby one end of the same is detachably mounted in the recess, so that its end surface will contact or rest on the bottom of the recess, and said end will be wholly inclosed within the recess, as shown by the dotted lines. The making of the base of square form and of a suicient height also prevents the post from having lateral movement when the base is planted in the ground.
The numeral 7 indicates a spiral-shaped anchor which depends from the under surface of the base and serves to hold the base and its post in position when the auger is inserted in the ground.
Having described my invention, what I.
claim is- A fence-post comprising a right-angular or L-shaped post, a squared base provided on its under face With a depending spiral-shaped anchor, the base being of a sufficient height to provide a marginal recess on two of its sides which extends downwardly into the base and part of the way therethrough, said recess conforming' to the configuration of the post, and said post having one end detachably mounted in the recess so that its end surface will contact or rest on the bottom of the recess and be wholly within said base, substantially as specified.
CLEMENT J. B. MOORE.
