FASTENING FOR CURTAINS, 81.0.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N0. 795,122, dated July 18, 1905.
Application filed September 1, 1904. Serial No. 222,991.
T0 (1.7]. whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRnDRIoK J. HENRY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Buffalo, in the county of Erie and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fastenings for Curtains, &c., of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to fastenings for ourtains, draperies, &c., its primary objects being to provide a fastening which can be used on curtain-poles of different sizes and to dispense with the use of pins. Other objects are to provide a fastening which can be quickly applied and which is simple, inexpensive, and self-adjusting to the size of the pole on which it is used.
With these objects in view the invention consists in a convoluted spring-metal strip or band having a depending or outstanding guide portion at the outer extremity of the convolution which permits of readily applying the fastening to a curtain-pole and adjusting itself to the size of the pole.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a view of a curtain-pole with a curtain held thereon by means of my improved fastenings. Figs. 2 and 3 are side elevations of my improved fastening, showing the manner of applying the same to a curtain-pole. Fig. 4 is a side elevation of the fastening applied to a curtain-pole. Fig. 5 is a perspective View of the fastening.
Referring to the drawings in detail, similar numerals of reference refer to similar parts in the several figures.
The reference-numerall designates the on rtain-pole, and 2 the curtain hung on the pole.
3 designates the fastening considered as a whole, it being formed of a swing-metal strip coiled upon itself to form a small terminal convolution at and a main or large convolution intermediate the ends of the strip, the latter convolution having at its outer extremity an outstanding guide portion 6. When applied to a curtain-pole, the outer extremity of the convolution 5 is separated from the inner extremity of the same by a space 7, in which the curtain is clamped, the clamping of the curtain being assured by reason of the terminal convolution 4 bearing against the curtain-pole, with the curtain between the two,
which tends to coil up the terminal convolution and open the main convolution, thereby causing the inner extremity of the latter to be forced toward the outer extremity thereof, and thus securely clamp the curtain on the pole. The depending guide portions 6 of the fastenings serve to hold the folds of the curtain and aid in the graceful draping of the latter.
In applying the fastening it is simply necessary to take hold of the main convolution 5, place the guide portion 6 in rear of the pole, as shown in Fig. 2, when an outward pull and downward thrust will uncoil the convolution to the necessary extent and bring the inner terminal underneath the pole, as shown, respectively, in Figs. 3 and 4:.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is- 1. The combination with a curtain-pole and the curtain hung thereon, of a series of fastenings composed each of a single piece of metal curved into convolute form to provide amain convolution encompassing the curtainpole and that portion of the curtain snrroui'id ing said pole and an inner terminal con'volu tion lying between the pole and the outer end of the main convolution, said terminal convolution clamping the curtain against the pole and also against the outer end of the main. convolution.
2. The combination with a curtain-pole and the curtain hung thereon, of a series of fas t enings composed each of a single piece of metal curved into a convolution encompassing the curtain-pole and that portion of the curtain surrounding the same, and a depending portion at the outer extrel'nity of said convolution, the inner extremity of said convolution lying between the outer extremity thereof and the curtain-prde and serving to clamp the curtain to said pole.
In testimony whereof I have allixed my signature in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
