Be it known that I, WARNIE LUTHER PAYN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Checotah, Creek Nation, Indian Territory, have invented a new and Improved Fountain- Brush, of which the following is a specification.

The object of my invention is to provide a brush of this character which shall be adapted to contain and supply shampooing powder or fluid made into lather by the watersupply through the brush and at the same time be useful for general bathing or washing purposes.

The invention consists, generically, in providing fountain-brushes with a powder or fluid holding com artment, means whereby the powder or fluid) may be fed adapted to be formed into lather by water flowing into the brush, and specifically of the special construction, arrangement, and combination of 'parts shown in the accompanying drawings I and hereinafter fully described. The novel features will be pointed out in the appended claims.

In the drawings, Figure l is a central vertical sectional view through my improved fountain shampooing-brush. Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view of a broken-away portion ofvmy brush, the section being taken therethrough in line to show the shampoo powder or iiuid feeding means. Fig. 3 is an inverted plan view with the perforated bottom removed, and Fig. 4 is a bottom plan view of the perforated bottom.

In the practice of my invention I employ a suitable hollow body portion A and provide it with a detachable bottom B, having a series of perforations therethrough, substantially as shown in Figs. 1, 2, and 4. The bottom B may be secured to the body portionA by screw-thread connection D or other suitable means. Within the body portion I arrange a vessel E, opening downwardly and supported depending from the inner top side thereof, as shown in Fig. l. The vessel E is made sufficiently reduced in size, leaving an annular space F between. it and the inner side wall of the body portion A for the purpose described farther on.

G denotesa suitable cover orbottoin to the vessel E, having screw-thread attachment G to the vessel E and adapted for holding the shampoo powder or fiuid G2. The bottom G has a discharge-opening H, forming the seat of a valve HQ yieldingly suspended on the lower end of an arm H2. The upper end of the arm H2 is secured to the inner top side of the vessel E and worked by a rod H", made yielding by the confined spring H3.

Within the body portion A, I arrange a perforated passage-way I, communicating with a water-supply tube I2.y A valve J is arranged in the outer end I of the passageway I, adapted for closing it when at normal position against its seat J 3.

It will be noticed that the valve J is arranged on one end of a rod J4, whose other end is made extending through the body portion A and that its projecting end is provided with a push-button J5. The valve is held seated by suitable means, as the spring J G, arranged on the rod J4 between the button J5 and the outer side of the body portion A.

To the under side of the perforated bottom B, I secure a sponge or cloth K by means of thread or wires K, as will be understood upon reference to Fig. 1 of my drawings.

I do not desire to be restricted to the use of any particular rubbing-surface on my brush, since obviously other well-known means or forms thereof may beemployed instead of the sponge or cloth K.

To facilitate manipulation of my fountain shampooing-brush, I arrange a suitable-straphandle L upon its'upper side, substantially as `shown in Figs. 1 and 2.

In the construction of my invention the push-rods H4 and J4 are located on the body portion A to lie in easy reach of the users iingers when his hand is under the strap-handie L.

The construction of my invention will be understood from the above description. In its use the valve H is unseated by pressure applied on the rod H4 until sufficient shampoo powder or Huid has'passed down through the opening H in the bottom G to position upon the perforated bottom B. Suflicient mixing-chamber is provided between the botsaid chamber, means for cutting off How of tom B and the under side of the bottom G. (See Fig. l.) When the desired quantity of shampooing material is fed into the aforesaid mixing-chamber, the valve J is opened by pressure applied to the button J5 at the far end of its rod J4. With the Valve J unseated water is free to flow through the tube l2 and into the spraying passage-way I, the sprays of water having free entrance through the annular space F to the shampoo material Gr3 in the mixing-chamber. Upon admixture of 'the material G3 and the aforesaid sprays of waterby means of slight shaking actionlather will be formed and led through the perforations in the bottom B to the sponge, cloth, or other rubbing-surface K.

It is apparent that my invention is very useful for general cleaning or bathing purposes in addition to its shampooing use.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

l. In a fountain-brush, a body portion provided with discharge-openings, an inner vessel, having a discharge-opening with means controlling feed therethrough, the inner vessel being arranged in the body portion and at a distance from the sides and bottom walls thereof, providing an intervening chamber, fluid-feeding means leading into said chamber, and a rubbing-surface on the body portion, substantially as described. y

2. The combination of a hollow body portion having discharge-openings, an inner vessel having a dischar e-opening with means under tension, contro ling feed therethrough,

the inner vessel being arranged at a distance from the sides and bottom walls of the body portion, providing a chamber in the body portion, fluid-feeding means leading into the fluid, and a rubbing-surface on the body portion, substantially as described.

3. A fountain-brush consisting of a hollow body portion having a erforated detachable bottom, an inner vesse having a valve-con trolled discharge-opening, the vessel being arranged away from the sides and bottom walls of the body portion leaving annular, side and bottom spaces in the body portion, a passage-way in said annular space, having spray-openings, a water-supply for said passage-way, and means controlling feed of water into the body portion, substantially as described.

4. The combination in a fountain-brush, employing a hollow body portion having a perforated detachable bottom, of a rubbingsurface secured to the outer side of said bottom, a passage-way in the body portion, having spray-openings, a tube wherethrough water maybe led to said passage-way, a valve in the passage-way, adapted to be controlled by a suitably-connected push-button, an inner detachable vessel, arranged at a distance from the side and bottom walls of the body portion, forming an annular space, the inner vessel being provided with a valve-controlled discharge opening, a suitably connected push-button whereby the latter valve may be worked, the annular space in the body portion being adapted to receive a suitable quantity of shampoo material and water for forming lather by admiXture thereof, and for holding the lather suitably to be flowed through the perforations in the body-portion bottom, substantially as described.
