UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GRANVILLE D. ORANGE, OF VALATIE, NEW YORK.
SPRAY-CYLINDER CLEANER FOR PAPER-MACHINES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 405,015, dated June 11, 1889.
Serial No. 270,613. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GRANVILLE D. ORANGE, of Valatie, in the county of Columbia and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Spray-Cylinder Cleaner for Paper- Machines, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both the figures.
Figure 1 is a sectional elevation of my invention, and Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional elevation taken on the line no a: of Fig. 1.
The invention will first be described in connection with the drawings, and then pointed out in the claim.
A represents a tube, to which water is supplied through the pipe B. In the tube A are formed numerous perforations a a, so that the water will escape from the tube in small streams or spray. The pipe B is attached to the tube A by a three-way coupling 0, in the outer end 01- port of which is screwed the cap D. To the opposite end of the tube A is connected by the three-way coupling E the pipe F, provided with the cock G. The object of this pipe and cock is to discharge from the tube A any sediment or foreign substance which may collect or be deposited therein.
For cleaning the tube A, I employ a rod H and swab J, attached to one end thereof and permanently held in the tube A. The rod H passes through a plug K, screwed into the outer end of the three-way coupling E, and is formed with a handle L at its Outer end for convenience in reciprocating the rod and swab in the tube A for cleaning the same.
When not in operation, the rod H will be shoved so that the swab J will enter the cap D, and thus not interfere with its free flow of water into and through the pipe A.
Having thus described my invention, What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination, with the perforated pipe A, provided with supply-pipe B, the cap D, forming an extension of the tube A, the discharge-pipe F, and the plug K in the end of the tube A, of the rod H, provided with the handle L, and the swab J on the inner end of the rod II, substantially as herein shown and described.
GRANVILLE D. ORANGE.
