Description

PATENTED JULY 4;, 1905.
A TTORNEYS J. KMBISH, JR.' HOISTNG DEVCE.
APPLIOATION FILM) MN. 16. 1905.
WITNESSES: 'Zr' m' ivrrnn Stat@ Patented July d, AlQUltn anni SPEGIFXCATION 'forming part of Letters Patent No. 794,023, dated July 4, 1905. Application iilcd January 16, 1905. Serial No. 241,242.
,To MH mii/nm, 111; may con/cera;
lie it known that l, JOHN Kani-asn, Jr., a citizen oII the United States, and a resident of Piney, in the county of Vlfetzel and State of Yl'llest Virginia, have invented a new and flinproved lloisting Device, of which the following is a lull, clear, and exact description.
rlihe object oi the invention is to provide a new and improved hoisting device, more es pecially designed for raising and lowering deeijrwell tubing, pump-rods, and the like, and arranged to allow convenient and quick raising and lowering ol a load without much expenditure ot' power.
'ilhe invention consists of novel features and parts and combinations of the same, as will be more :li'ully described hereinafter and then pointed out in the claims.
,lliielierenee is to be had to the accompanying drawing` YForming a part of this speci lication, in which the ligure a perspective view of the improvement.
ln a suitablyconstructed `frame or stand A is journaled a drum B, on which winds and unwinds a portion of a rope or cable C, having its ends U and C secured to a pin or other device A', held on the overhead structure Aioif the Al'rame or stand A. l`he runs C and C* ol the rope or cable extend umvardly 'from the drum .l and pass over )jiulleys D and D, mounted to rotate irulependent one olf the other and in opposite directions on a shaft lil, held on the overhead structure A2. lhe rope between the end C and the pulley l) is ilorlned into a, downwardly-hanging loop U5, and the portion olE the rope between the end C and the pulley D' is formed intoa loopU. ln the loops and il are hung sheaves F and ld", of which one is adal'ited to be connected at a time by a suitable :lastexiing device G with the tube, rod, or other device llY to be raised or lowered.
fil-ly reference to the drawing it will be seen that when the drum B is rotated in one direction then the run L of the rope or cable winds up on the drum B, while the other run C un winds from the drum, and hence the windingup run (1" causes an upward movement o1 the loop il, the sheave F', AFastening device (nl, and the load H, while at the same time the loop il'rmoves down ward and with it the sheave F, as the run C3 is unwound at the time from the drum li. rlhus while the sheave F moves upward the sheave F moves downward, and when the sheave li", and with it the load, has reached. an uppermost position then the sheave F is connected with the load a distance below the point engaged by the Afastening device G, and then the fastening device G is removed from the load H and the drinn B is reversed, so that the run C winds up on the drinn and the run C" unwinds from the drinn. When this takes place, the sheave l," is caused to move upward while the sheave F descends, and when the sheave l?, and with it the load, has reached an uppermost position then the sheave li" is again connected to the lead and the sheave l? disconnected `from the load. lhe drinn B is then again turned in the original direction and the above-described operation is repeated.
llhe device is very simple and durable in construction, is not liable to easily get out oli order, and can be readily putin use to quickly and conveniently raise a well-tubing, drillrod, or the like, or to lower the same by reversing the above-described operation.
lilaving thnsdescribed my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by liettersltitent l. A hoisting device, comprising a :trame formed of a platform having` a central aperture and provided with legs and uprights on the platform and connected together at their upper ends to 'lorm an overhead structure, a drum inountei'l in the lower ends of two of the uprights, a sln it in the overhead, structure, pulleys mounted side by side on said sha'lt to rotate ini'lependentiy one ol. the other and in oppositedirections, pins in the overhead structure, a hoisting-rope wound upon the drum so that one portion winds up on the drinn while the other portion unwinds, the ends el" the rope being passed up over the pulleys then downwardly and upwardly to form loops and their ends secu red to the pins in the overhead structure, and a sheave in each of the loops ot' the hoisting-rope, said sheaves being adapted to be alternately connected with the load to be lifted or lowered, substantially as herein shown and described.
2. A device of the class described, compris- IOO ing au upright frame, a drum mounted in the ed to be alternately Connected with the loacl lower` part of the frame, a hoisting-rope Wuclto be lifted or lowered.
