SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 794,015, dated July 4-, 1905.
Application filed May 4;, 1905. Serial No. 253.877.
To m/l Iv/toot i/z 11m concern:
lite it known that i. FEEDING J ussn llUS'ltlP- Lee, a citizen of the United States, residing at ltllnlvane, in the county of tlumner and State ol liansas, have invented new and useful lmprovenu-nits in Boiler-(jleaners, which the l' ,)llowine' is a speci lieation.
l rlly invention is a boilcr-clcaner of that type comprising a chainhe arrangtal outside the boiler thmue'h which the water circulatesand in which the scale and other impurities are precipitated.
The object of the invention is to provide an apparatim of this kind embodyiiig siniplicity ol eonstrllction and thorough etliciency ol operation.
in the accompanying' drawings, .lliigure l is an elemtimi of a boiler with my appzu'atus in position. Fig. 2 is a longitijulinal sectional view of the apparatus. Fig. 3 is atransverse sectionon the line 3 3 of Fig.
litelerrine specifically to the drawings, dc notes a boiler which may be of any construction or type, nothingbeing claimed with respect thereto. The precipitation-chaml)er is indicated at b and is provided with adepending branch 7. ilnside the chamber (:3 is a vertically-arranged ballle-plale 8, which extends to the side walls of the chamber, but is spaced from the top and bottom thercol, the top space [J beingnarrow and the bottom space 10 wide.
at or about the middle ol the chamber (3 is a horizontal iartition 11, which extends from one end of the chamber to the ballle-plate, being secured to the latter. The partition is spaced, sliglitly from the walls oi the chamber for a purpose to be hereiiialter (lescrilmd.
An i1ilet-pi e l2 enters the front end ol' the chzunber (3. The outlet-pipe 13 extends from top ol the chamber, near the rearcnd thereof, above the partition 11. The inlet-pipe extends into the boiler just below the water-line, and the outlet-pipe enters the lowest part of the boiler, so that there is a continuous circulation of water through the chamber. The
lower end of the branch 7 is litted with a blowotl pipe 14. l
The operation of the ammratus is as tollows: The water entering the ehanil ierfi strikes the bafiie-nlate h, which retards its [low somewhat, causi no the scale, di rt, &c., to he preci pitated and to pass under the ballle plate through the space 10 into thebranch 7. where it collects and from which it can be blown when nmlessary through the blow-oltpipe lei. As the partition 1 l is slightly spaced from the walls 01 the clutmber, there will be sullicicnt circulation under the partition to carry the impurities to the lHftHCll 7. 'lhere is, however. no circulation in the latter, and the impurities collecting therein will not agijth'i be taken up by the water to be passed into the boiler. The clear water iassesover the battleplate through the space 9 and out ol the chamber and back to the boiler tl'irough the outletpi :)e 1.3.
li'l aving' thus described my invention, what is claiined as new, and desired to be secured by Letters Patent, is
1. The coml iination with a boiler; 01 a precipitation-chanther, having a (ilepending branch, and an inlet from the boiler; a ballle-plate in the chamber between the inletand the branch, and spaced from the top and bottom of the chamber; an outlet to the boiler behind the balile-plate; and a partition in the chamber between the branch and the outlet.
2. Thec m1bination with a boiler; 01' a precipitation-cliamber having a sedin1ent-collection receptacle; an inlet from the boiler; a bafil'llcplate in the clntniiber between theinlet and the receptacle, and spaced from the topand bottiinn oi the chalnber; an outlet to the boiler lashind the batlle-plate; and a partition in the chainber between the receptacle and the outlet.
In testin'iony whercol ll havesigned my name to this specification in the presence 01' two sub scribing witnesses.
