Description

No. 792,866. PATEN EEEEEEEEEEEEE 5.
oooooooooooooooooooooooo PPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP 4.
UNITED STATES Patented J' une 20, 1905.
PATENT OFFICE.
WINDOW-SHUTTER OR DOOR GUIDE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. l79235366, dated June 2.), 1905.
Application filed vlovcn'be: 30,1904. Serial No. 234,828.
To a, whom, it may concern,.-`
Be it known that I, FRANCES E. VVARNER, a citizen of the United States, residing at New Milford, in the county of Bergen, State of New Jersey, have invented a new and useful lindoW-Shutter or Door Guide, of which the following is a specification.
My invention consists of an improvementin guides for shutters, doors, &c., whereby the same can be quickly and easily hung in position upon the supporting devices therefor.
It further consists of novel details of construction, all as will be hereinafter set forth.
Figure 1 represents a perspective View of a guide embodying my invention, showing the supporting pin or pivot and a portion of a door or shutter with the coacting device or socket for the pin attached thereto. Fig. 2 represents a perspective View wherein the pivot for the door or shutter is formed integral with the guide. Fig. 3 represents aplan view Vthereof.
Similar numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts in the figures.
Referring to the drawings, 1 designates a guide, consisting of aplate 2, having openings 3 therein for attachment to the side of awindow-frame or door-frame, and has the projecting portion 4 extendingat an angle from the plate 2.
5 designates a lip, which is curved toward the projecting portion 4, with a space between the inturned edge 16 of said lip and the face of the projecting portion 4, the upper face or edge of said lip 5 being inclined downwardly, as at 6, in order to form a track, it being understood that the space between the edge 16 of the lip 5 and the projecting portionfi is of suflcient width to pass the bracket 7, which is attached to the door or shutter 8, it being understood that said bracket 7 carries the pin or socket therefor, and in the drawings I have shown the socket 9 as carried by said bracket 7.
10 designates the pin for the socket 9, which in the present instance is carried by an arm 11, which is suitably attached to the frame of the window or door.
If desired, I may provide a second lip 12 beneath the first-mentioned lip 5, which is also curved inwardly, as' previously explained, with respect to the first-mentioned lip.
The operation will be readily understood. In order to swing a door or shutter on its hinges, it isfound to be difficult to hold the s'ame in proper position in order that both of the sockets will be presented in the proper position to the supporting-pins; but by use of my device it will be seen that no care need be exerciscd in the operation, which will be quickly and easily accomplished. The plate 3 is secured adjacent the pin 10 in the present instance in such a position that the said pin is directly beneath the space formed between the curved lips and the plate, one of the guides being secured above each of the pins employed, -so that by simply placing the socket 9 in the space between the lips 5 and 12 and the projecting portion 4 the socket 9 may be quickly guided to the pin 10, the effect of which is evident, by simply lowering the door or shutter.
By reason of the curved face 6 on the lip 5 it will be seen vthat if the socket 9 is not presented quite properly to the guide the said inclined face will direct the said socket and supporting-bracket 7 to the proper place between said lip, and the projecting portion 11 and the socket and pin are brought together.
In the construction seen in Fig. 2 the guide is formed as shown in Fig. 1; but I have made in this instance a depending strip 13, which carries the bracket 14:, which supports the pin 15, so that the whole device, including the shutter or door support, will be fastened together with the guide in one operation upon the window-frame or door-frame.
It will be understood that the pin may be carried by the bracket on the shutter or door, and the socket may be secured to the frame or may be carried by the strip 13 of the guide.
It will be evident that various changes may be made by those skilled in the art which will come within the scope of my invention, and I do not, therefore, desire to be limited in every instance to the exact construction herein shown and described.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. In a device of the character described, a stationary member of the hinge and a guide situated above said member and out of contact therewith and constructed to direct the coacting member of the hinge thereto.
2. In a device of the character described, a guide formed of a plate having a portion eX- tending at an angle to the body of the plate and provided with a curved lip forming a passage through Which onel hinge member is guided to a coacting member.
3. In a device of the character described, a
FRANCES .E. WARNER.
