SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 792,197, dated June 13, 1905.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that 1, ISOM J. CLARK, acitizen of the United States, residing at Mahomet, in the county of Burnet and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cotton-Pickers? Sacks and Supports Therefor; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

My invention relates to improvements in devices for assisting cotton-pickers, and more particularly to a sack or bag and means for supporting the same.

The object of the invention is to provide a simple, inexpensive, durable, efficient, and convenient truck or wagon for supporting the usual bag or sack used by persons picking cotton, so that the sack willbe well protected and more easily handled.

Vith the above and other objects in view the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, combination, and arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter described and claimed.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view showing the application of the device to a person, the latter being indicated by dotted lines. Fig. 2 is a vertical transverse sectional view through the device, and Fig. 3 is a top plan view of the truck with the sack removed.

Referring to the drawings by numeral, 1 denotes a bag or sack used by persons picking cotton from growing cotton-plants, and 2 denotes a supporting truck or wagon for said sack. The sack 1 is of the usual form and construction, consisting of a long tubular or cylindrical bag of fabric material having a closed lower end and an open upper end which is adapted to be attached to aperson by means of a band or loop 3, which is passed over his neck or shoulder, and two strings or straps 4, which are passed around his body beneath his arms, as shown in Fig. 1 of the drawings.

The sack-supporting truck 2 comprises a tilting body 5, mounted upon an axle 6, which has journaled upon its ends supporting-wheels 7. The tilting frame or body 5 of the truck preferably consists of a series of longitudi-.

nally-extending bars 8, connected by transverse bars 9, and the axle 6, which latter is secured to said bars by means of clips 10. The forward ends of the longitudinal bars 8 are bent downwardly and rearwardly to form curved portions 11, which when the body is tilted engage and slide upon the ground. The rear ends of said bars 8 are bent upwardly, as shown at 12, to assist in retaining the sack 1 upon the body. Said sack is prevented from contacting with the supporting-wheels 7 by providing side guards 13, which are disposed at each side of the body or frame. These guards project vertically and are substantially V-shaped in form, consisting of an upright 14, through which the axle 6 passes, and a bar 15 bent at its center and secured to the upper end of the upright 14 and having its ends secured upon one of the outer longitudinal bars 8, as clearly shown in Figs. 2 and 3 of the drawings.

The sack 1 has its closed end detachably secured at one end of the frame or body 5, and its upper end is detachably and adjustably connected to the opposite end of said frame or body, so that the latter will be supported in a substantially horizontal position. The detachable connection between the bottom of the sack and the end of the body or frame 5 is preferably effected by providing upon said sack snap-hooks 16, which are engaged with eyes 17 provided upon the turned-up ends 12 of the bars 8. The detachable and adjustable supporting connection between the forward end of the frame or body 5 and the upper end of the sack or the person of the picker is effected by means of crossed straps 18. Each of said straps or flexible connections has its lower end adjustably connected, by means of a snap-hook 19, with an eye 20 upon the forward end of the frame or body 5 and its opposite end similarly connected by a snap-hook 21, which engages an eye 22, provided upon the upper end of the sack at the point where the neck loop or strap 3 is secured. Each of the straps 18 consists of two parts which are detachably connected by means of buckles 23, so that the length of said straps may be adjusted. according to the height of the cotton-picker.

The construction, use, and advantages of the invention will be readily understood from the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings. It will be seen that the device will greatly assist a cotton-picker and protect the sack against Wear. The sack may be easily drawn along without contacting with the ground, and it may be quickly and easily applied to and removed from the supporting-truclr. It will also be understood that the upper end of the bag or sack may be applied or attached to the picker, as shown in Fig. 1 of the drawings, or in any other desired manner.

\Vhile I have shown and described the pre ferred embodiment of my invention, it will be understood that I do not wish to be limited to the precise construction herein set forth, since various changes in the form, proportion, and the minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the principle or sacrificing any of the advantages of this invention.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. A device of the class described comprising a truck, a sack having its lower end connected to one end of the truck, means for attaching the mouth portion of the sack to a person, and a supporting connection, independent of the sack, between the upper or mouth portion thereof and the end of the truck opposite that to which the lower end of the sack is attached.

2. A device of the class described comprising a truck, a sack having its lower end connected to one end of the truck, means for attaching the mouth portion of the sack to a person, and a longitudinally-extensible supporting connection, independent of the sack, between the upper or mouth portion thereof and the end of the truck opposite that to which the lower end of the sack is attached.

3. A device of the character described, comprising a wheeled truck having a tilting body, a sack, a detachable connection between the lower end of said sack and one end of the body of said truck, means at the upper end of said sack for attaching the same to a person, crossed two-part straps each having one of its ends detachably connected to the other end of said truck and its opposite end detachabl y connected to the upper end of said sack, and means for adjusting the parts of said straps, substantially as described.

4:. A device of the character described, comprising a wheeled truck having a tilting body, a sack, snap-hooks detachably connecting said sack to one end of. said truck, an attachingloop at one end of said sack, flexible connections at the other end of said sack to secure the same to the body of a person, crossed two-part straps, snap-hooks at the ends of said straps for detachably connecting one end of said sack and one end of said truck, and buckles connecting the two parts of said straps, substantially as described.
