Description

No. 79'0.24s. I PATENTED MAY 16, 1905.
LYOUNG. DETAGHABLE DOLL'S HEAD.
APPLIOATIO H PIL ED A UG. 26, 1903 v Patented May 16, 1905.
PATENT OFFICE.
IDA YOUNG, or BUTTE, MONT-ANA.
DETACHABLE DOLLS HEAD.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 790,243, dated May 16, 1905.
Application filed August 26, 1903. Serial No. 170,852.
To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, IDA YOUNG, a citizen of the United States, residing at Butte, in the county of Silverbow and State of Montana, have invented new and useful Improvements in Detachable Dolls Heads, of which the following is a specification. a
My invention relates to dolls; andits object is to provide a new and useful device of this character having the head thereof so applied to its body that it may be easily and quickly removed from or attached thereto, whereby a new head or one of a different configuration may be substituted for the old head.
The invention consists of the construction,
combination, and arrangement of parts here inafter fully described, claimed, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, which disclose the preferred form of my invention, and in Which Figure 1 is a side elevation of a doll s head and a fragmentary portion of the body, the head being removed from the body and the neck in section. Fig. 2 is a detail side elevation of the bushing. Fig. 3 is a detail bottom plan view thereof.
Referring to the drawings by reference-numerals, 1 designates the body of a doll terminating in a screw-threaded and centrallylocated stud 2, to which the head 3 of the doll is removably secured.
The head 3, which may be constructed of any suitable material and of anyconfiguration, has the neck portion 4 thereof provided with internally-arranged screw-threads to receive a bushing, which may be formed from any suitable metal and comprises a sleeve 5 and flange 6. The sleeve 5 is internally and externally screw-threaded, the external screwthreads being adapted to engage the threaded portion of the neck 4: to secure the sleeve in applied position, while the internal screwthreads are adapted to engage the threaded stud 2 to removably secure the head upon the body. The flange 6 is horizontally disposed cement or other adherent may be inserted between the neck and sleeve to rigidly secure the bushing in applied position, and, further, in this instance the flange 6 will perform an additional functionthat is, it will retain the adherent means .in position while setting and also protect the under edge of the neck.
' It is apparent from the above description,
'taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, that I provide a new and useful means for attaching the head of a doll to its body, whereby the head may be quickly and easily removed to be replaced by a new one when broken or one of a different description.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is In a detachable fastening for dolls heads, the combination of a hollow head provided with a neck formed with a threaded passage communicating with the interior of the head, a sleevein said passage having internal and external threads, the latter engaging the threads of the neck, a body having a screwstud fitting in said sleeve and engaging the internal threads thereof, said stud adapted to project into the head when the latter is fully screwed thereon, and a wear plate or flange fixed to the sleeve and bearing against the base of the neck to protect the same from injury and to strengthen the sleeve, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
Y IDA YOUNG.
