ADVERTISING-CLOCK SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 789,584, dated May 9, 1905. Application filed August 24, 1903- Serial No, 170,599.

Be it known that we, FREDERIK CHRISTIAN VIeeo AR? and SoREN CARL JENsEN, watchmakers, citizens of Denmark. residing at the city of Copenhagen, in the Kingdom of Denmark, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Clocks with Advertisements, of which the following is a specification.

This invention refers to clocks; and it consists in means, combined with the ordinary clock-movement, for displaying on the face of a clock-case advertisements or the like that change automatically and at certain intervals. This is accomplished by means of a runninggear connected with the movement of the clock.

This invention is represented in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 indicates the face of any such clock, and Fig. 2 is a vertical section through the same, and Fig. 3 shows the device for limiting the changing of the advertisements viewed from the side.

In the clock-case a two drumsZ/ Z are joun naled, around which an endless belt 0 passes, carrying advertisements or the like. On the shaftcZ of drum Z) a cog-wheel e is fitted, gearing with the cog-wheel f of the separate running-gear g, the movement of which is thus communicated to drums Z) Z by means of the cog-wheel f and the cog-wheel a. In order to adjust the changing of the display of the various advertisements and the like, a plate of is fitted on the shaft lb of the cog-wheel f, a double arm 70, with two studs Z Z, being fitted to said plate. The rotation of the arm carrying these two studs Z Z, and thus the escape ment of the entire running-gear g, is prevented by means of the one stud Z or the other stud, Z, impinging alternately upon a wheel on, which is in rotatory connection with the movement a of the clock. This wheel in is made with notches o of such size as to just allow the studZ or Z to pass through, but not immediately after one another without any appreciable interval of time, the distance from the stud Z to the shaft 71 being greater than from the stud Z to the shaft Zr. Consequently if stud Z passes a notch 0 stud Z will impinge on the solid part of the wheel between two notches, and simultaneously the movement of the running-gear will consequently be stopped.

In order to make the impinging of the studs against the wheel on as soft as possible, the plate 2' is fitted with a spring resting on the arm 70, which moves with studs in oblong holes in the plate At each change of the advertisement or the like displayed one of the studs 2', fitted on the drum Z), acts on a hammer s, which strikes against a belt Z.

The combination with a clockwork, a separate running-gear havinga source of 1110- tive power independent of the clockwork and means for displaying a series of advertisements movable by said runninggear, of a wheel rotated bysaid clockwork, and provided with notches in its periphery, a plate rotated by said running-gear and a double-armed lever carried by said plate and provided with studs at different radial distances from its fulcrum, said studs being adapted to alternately pass through one of the notches or impinge against said wheel to respectively release or stop said running-gear, substantially as described for the purpose set forth.

2. The combination with a clockwork, a separate running-gear having a source of motive power independent of the clockwork and means for displaying a series of advertisements movable by said running-gear, of a wheel rotated by said clockwork, and provided with notches in its periphery, a plate rotated by said running-gear, a double-armed lever carried by said plate and provided with studs at different radial distances from its fulcrum, said studs being adapted to alternately pass through one of the notches or impinge against said wheel to respectively release or stop said. running-gear, and means for reducing the impact of the studs against the notched wheel, substantially as described for thepurpose set forth.
