SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 789,560, dated May 9, 1905.
Application filed May 23,1904. Serial No, 209,243.
To fr/Z/ 71171/0721/ 717/14/ con/cern.'
Be it known that I, lmumonu OLsnN, a citi zen of the United States, and a resident of Manistce, in the county of Manistee and State o't' Michigan, have invented a new and lmproved Saw Gage and Jointer, of which the following' is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to improvements in combined saw cleaner-tooth gages and topjointcrs, an object beingl to provide a device ol this character of novel and simple construction, readily adjustable, and easily handled.
ll will describe a saw gage and jointer elnbodying my invention and then point out the novel features in the appended claims.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying' drawings, forming a part of this specilication, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of' a saw gage and jointer embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is an inner side view thereof'. Fig. 3 is a seetion on the line 3 3 of' Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is a scctiou on the line a et o1 Fig. 2.
Referring to the drawings, 5 designates the inner face-plate, having inwardly-extendedflanges 6 at its upper edge, these flanges bcing spaced apart to permit the entrance of a lile. Adjustable on the outer surface of the Al"ace-plate is a gage-plate 7, having' an inwardly-extended flange 8 projected into the space between the flanges 6 and having a slot 9 to receive the cleaner-teeth. The gage-plate is held in adjustable connection with the laceplate by means of' a set-screw 10, which passes through a vertical slot 11 and engages in a tapped hole .in the gage-plate. At its opposite vertical edges the gage-plate slides against outwardl,veXteuded ribs 12 on the Yface-plate, and, as here shown, the outer side ofl the gageplate is provided with a block or bracket 13, on which a top-jointer file 1li is designed to be placed, and the lilc is held in position by means of' a set-screw 15 engaging a tapped hole in a lug 1G on the gage-plate. lt will be noted that at the inner side the plate 5 is provided with vertical ribs 17, the outer surfaces of which are practically on a plane with the head ol'I the set-screw V1 0, and therefore the device is prevented from rocking motion on a saw-blade, as would be the case were the blade to engage against the screw without the said supports or ribs. The euterside of the gageplate below the block 1l, is provided with upper and lower outwardly-extcnded flanges 18 19, throl'lgh openings in which zu'ljustingscrews 2O pass. These screws have nuts 21 at the upper end, which engage against the upper su rface of the flange 18, and their lower heads 22 are provided with slots to receive a screwsdriver. '.lhe threaded portions of the screws engage tapped holes in lugs 23, extended outward fronl the f`ace-platc 5 through vertical slots 24, formed in the gage-plate. By manipulating the screws 2() it is obvious that the gage-plate may be adjusted to bring its flange 18 to any desired position below the flanges 6.
In operating upon the cleaner-teeth the Vface-plate is to be placed against the saw and the flanges 6 engage on the top of' the teeth, with the cleaner-tooth extended through the opening 9. After lilingone cleaner-tooth it is obvious that thc device may be readily removed to the next cleaner-tooth. In topjointing, the flanges 1S and 19 are to be placed against the blade of thc saw and the lile passed over the tops ofl the teeth, as clearlyindicated in dotted lines in Fig. 1.
Having thus descri bed my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. ln a device for the purpose specified, the combination of a face-plate, a gageplatc, u pper and lower outwardly-extended flanges on the gage-plate provided with openings, the said gage plate having slots between the flanges, tapped lugs extended from the faceplate through said slots, adjusting-screws engagingin said lugs and passing loosely through the openings in the flanges, the said screws having' heads for engaging with the lower flange, and nuts on the screws for engaging with the upper flange.
2. 1n a device for the purpose specified, the
combination of a fece-plete, a gage-plate, npper and lower ontwerdly-extended ztnges on the gage-plate, the said gage-plate havingslots between the ztnges, tapped lugs extended from the face-plete through sind slots, and adjusting-screws engaging in sind lugs and hmT- ing rotary connection with said flanges.
In testimony whereo` I have signed lny name l to this specification in the presence of two subscrbing witnesses. v
