SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 788,847, dated May 2, 1905. Application filed August 1, 1904. Serial No. 219,154.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, AMBROSE SCARFE Pow- ELL, acitizen of the United States, residing at WVhigham, in the county of Decatur and State of Georgia, have invented a new and useful Device for Supporting Mosquito-Nets, Lamps, or the Like, of which the following is a specifieation.

This invention relates to devices for supporting mosquito-nets, lamps, and the like, and has for its object new and useful improvements in such devices which may be quickly and easily attached to any ceiling or other desired place of support therefor and be readily adjustable thereon.

In the accompanying drawings, which set forth the preferred form of my device, and in which like numerals indicate corresponding parts in all the views thereof, Figure 1 is an elevation, parts of the collars and their adjusting means being shown in section and showing the p-holder and mosquito-net attached to the support. Fig. 2 is a horizontal sectional view taken on the line 2 2, Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a detail view of the means for attaching the lower ends of the supporting rods or wires to the main supporting-tube, and Fig. 4 is a detail view of one of the upper attaching-eollars.

Referring in detail to the drawings, 1 refers to the ceiling-plate, attached by bolts or any other preferred means to the ceiling of the room in which the device is to be used and having a circular aperture therein through which the upper end of the main supportingtube is inserted, the tube being retained in said eeilingplate by means of 'an annular flange. The tube proper consists of the outer tube 2, having the annular flange 2', and the inner tube 3, sliclable therein and adjustable by means of the lock-pins 4. In case more than two tubes be used each one, with the exception of the outermost tube, will be provided in like manner with the lock-pins 4.

Attached tothe inner tube 3 is a supporting rod or tube 5, having a threaded end 6 fitting in a correspondingly-threaded recess? in the split collar 8, encircling the reduced portion of said tube 3 and held against the shoulder formed thereby by a screw 9. The rod 5 is bent upward at 15 and backward at 15 and attached at its upper end to tube 3 by means of collar 18, said collar havingascrewthreaded recess 17, in which the threaded upper end 16 of rod 5 fits. The collar 18 is adjustable on tube 3 and may be locked in adjusted position by means of a set-screw 19.

Diametrically opposite the rod 5 is a second rod or tube 25, bent upward and backward at 35 and 35 similarly to rod 5 and attached to the adjustable tube 3 at its upper end by means of collar 38, into the screwthreaded recess 37 of which the threaded end 36 of rod 25 fits. Said collar is likewise adjustable on tube 3 and is locked by means of set-screw 39. The lower end of rod 25 is bent into the form of an eye, said eye being slipped in the split collar 8, as shown in Fig. 3, and encircling the screw 9, the ends of both rods 5 and 25 being thus held together and attached to tube 3. As shown in Fig. 4, collar 18 is removable from tube 3, owing to the space therein, and collar 38 is of similar construction. In their bent position rods 5 and 25 form brackets.

Rods 5 and 25 carry trolley-wheels 1O 20,

respectively, and from these depend hangers 11 and 21, carrying hooks 12 and 22, respectively. Hook 12 is used to support the mosquite-net and its frame, (denoted as a whole by 50,) which may be of any desired form. Hook 22 is used to support the lamp-holder, which is denoted as a whole by 40. Decribed more in detail, said lamp-holder consists of a circular bottom plate 42, having attached thereto rods 41 at diametrically opposite points. Said wires are bent outwardly and then upwardly and are united at 41', forming a loop which is placed upon hook 22. Slidable upon rods 41 are tubes 43, having knobs or handle portions 44, perforated, as at 45, to admit of the passage of rods 41 therethro ugh. Said tubes contain inner tubes 46, and coiled springs 47 are employed to separate the tubes longitudinally. At the inner ends of the tubes 46 are curved chimney-clamping plates 48, that serve to hold the chimney in place.

When in use, the rods 5 and 25 may be turned with the tube 3 as an axis, to any I sired position, and the upper collars 18 and l 38 may be raised and lowered as required. l

It is obvious that various changes in the form, proportions, and minor details of the structure herein described may be made without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.

Having thus described my invention, what is claimed is 1. In a device of the class described, a main support, a plurality of radially-disposed members revolubly adjustable upon said support, and movable supporting means carried by said radially-disposed members.

2. In a device of the class described, a main support, a radially-extending member carried thereby and adjustable with the support as an axis, a trolley-wheel mounted on the radial support, and an article-supporting device carried by said trolley-wheel.

3. In a device of the class described, a main support, a plurality of brackets attached thereto and adapted to swing thereupon as 1 an axis, means for adjusting the brackets on the support, a trolley-wheel carried by each bracket, and an article-supporting device connected to said trolley-wheel.

4. In a device of the class described, a main 1 attached thereto, and movable thereupon as an axis, means for adjusting the brackets vertically, trolley-wheels on said brackets, and hangers carried by said trolley-Wheels.

5. In a device of the class described, a main supporting-tn be, a plurality of bent rods carried by the tube, means for vertically adjusting the upper ends of said rods, means for pivotally connecting the lower ends of the rods to the tube, said connecting means including a split collar at the end of one rod, and an eye at the end of the other rod, and a screw extending through the collar and eye and into the lower end of said supportingtube.

6. In a device of the class described, a main supporting-tube, a supporting member movable vertically and horizontally upon the tube, a trolley-wheel movable upon said member, a hanger on the trolley-wheel, and a suspension-hook carried by the hanger.
