Description

EATENTED APE. E5, 1905. s. BUEEELL.
SCREEN GOVEE EOE TABLES.
APPLICATION FILED JULY 25, 1904.
UNITED STATES Patented April 25, 1905.
PATENT OEEICE.
SCREEN-COVER FOR TABLES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 788,351, dated April 25, 1905.
Appncaaon ned hay 25, 1904. serial No. 218,159.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, SAMUEL BURRELL, a citi- Zen of the United States, and a resident of Carmi, in the county of White and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Screen-Covers for Tables, of which the following is a specilication.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in canopies or-screens for tables, &c.; and the object of the invention is to produce a simple and efli'cient device of this character which may be utilized either in connection with tables or employed as a screen to protect beds, &c.
The invention consists in various details of construction and combinations and arrangements of parts, which will be hereinafter fully described and then specifically defined in the appended claims.
I illustrate my invention in the accompany- 'ing drawings, in which- Figure l is a perspective view of the canopy or screen shown as applied to a table. Fig. 2 is a detail view showing the skeleton work of the .screen-supporting frame, one section being raised and the other lowered against the table; and Fig. 3 is a sectional view through the post supporting the screen.
Reference now being had-to the details of the drawings by letter, A designates a table, and B is a central post rising from the table, which post is provided with dovetailed grooves C in the opposite edges thereof, designed to receive the dovetailed tongues D of the slides I). f
D2 is a projection of said slide, which is fastened at its lower end to the shelf E, which shelf is made up of two sections, to which the curved arms F are fastened. Said arms F have a rod L connecting their outer ends, as shown clearly in Fig. 2 of the drawings, and form a skeleton frame to support a covering of any suitable material, as shown in Fig. 1 of the drawings.
It will be observed that each side of the post is provided with a skeleton frame, and to the slide D is fastened a rope K, passing over a sheave O, and to the lower end of said rope is fastened a weight I, as shown in Fig'. 2 of the drawings. Said weight is provided as a counterbalance to hold the skeleton .frame in an adjusted position. A second sheave H is provided, over which a cord K' passes, which is fastened to the skeleton frame on the opposite side of the post. As each skeleton frame is of similar construction, it is not deemed necessary to describe in detail the frame on the opposite side of the post.
While I have shown my apparatus as applied to a table, it will be understood that it may be utilized for various purposes either in connection with tables or to support canopies over beds or other objects. l
Having thus fully described my invention, whatI claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, isp 1. A canopy-support comprising, in combination with a post having a groove in the face thereof, a slide guided in said groove, a skeleton frame supported by said slide, and a weighted member, a rope secured at one end to said member, a sheave over which the rope passes and the other end of the rope secured to said slide, as set forth.
2. In combination with a hollow post having an angular-outlined groove, a slide having an angular projection mounted in said groove, ashelf secured to said slide, a skeleton canopysupporting frame fixed to said shelf, a sheave mounted upon the post, a rope secured at one end to said slide and passing over said sheave, and a weight fastened to said rope, as set forth.
3. In combination with a hollow post and support therefor, a slide having an angular tongue adapted to have a vertical play in an angular-outlined groove formed longitudinally in said post, a shelf recessed upon one face and having shouldered portions extending about the sides of the post, a skeleton frame supported by said shelf, a sheave upon the post, a rope secured to said slide and passing over said sheave, a weight secured to said rope which passes through the hollow post, as set forth.
In testimony whereofI have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
SAMUEL BURRELL.
