Description

frii''tst germi-@fge yAND1 JOHN W; MASSEY.
Letters Patent No. 78,826, dated June 9, 1868.
IMPROVBD SHADE-FIXTURE.
"ilge tlgehule rentrer tu in time ettmi rgert me mrkingpnn nf tlge simu.
TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN;
Be it knownthat I, GEORGE T. PILLINGs, oi` Leicester, England, have invented a new and useful Improvenient in ShadeJiixtures; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact: description of thc'construction and operation cf the same, reference being had to the. accompanying drawings, making a pnrt of this specification, in whichh Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improvement in shode-xtures.
Figures 2, and 5 are detached views of same.
The object of my invention is to provide a. holder for the 'cord by which a. shadeis raised or lowered, the
seme being attached to the casing or frame of the window. From the peculiar construction of the holder, as
will be hereinaftelgi described, the cord'is always liept at a proper tension, and prevented from slipping off oi" the roller'end.
To enable t'hers skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will now proceed to describe its cons truction'and operation.
B, fig. 2, isthe back or frame, on one side, of which are formed eyes,.e and e', which serve as bearings.
Inserted and revolving in eyes e and e is a. worin, W, provided with a right or left-handed thread. Pivoted to the centre, and on `the front of the frame is circular rack, R, provided with an arm, to which is attached a pin, P, on which works aloo'se pulley, L.- i
The operation of the fixture is as follows: The-arm ofthe circular rack R isplaced in the position as shown in red lines, iig. 1, and the curtain-cord passed over the pulley New, in order to give the proper tension to4 the cord, the worm W is turned to the right or left, according to the thread, andV throws the arm of the rack R aroundto the required distance.
Having thus described my invention, itscionstruction and operation, what: I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is n The combination and arrangement of the frame B, provided with eyes and e', worm W, circular racli B.,
-and pulley Ii, so as to operate substantially in the manner and for the purpose specified. i
