Description

PATENTED APR. 25, 1905.

HOSE GO UPLIN G.
APPLICATION FILED FEB. 10. 1905 UNITED STATES Patented April 25, 1905.
PATENT OFFICE.
LOUIS VOGT, CONNEAUT, OHIO, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO JOHN R. SIMPSON, OF CONNEAUT, OHIO.
HOSE-COUPLING.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N0. 788,178, dated April 25, 1905.
Application filed February 10, 1905- Serial No. 245,043-
To a whom, it may concern:
Be it known thatI, LoUIs Voe'r, a citizen of the United States, residing at Oonneaut, in the county of Ashtabula and State of Ohio, have invented new and useful Improvements in Hose-Couplings, of which the following is a specification.
This invention is a hose-coupling of that class in which the hose-sections are connected by parts which hook and interlock together, allowing quick coupling and uncoupling.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of the coupling, parts being in section and other parts being removed. Figs. 2 and 3 are perspective views of the removed parts or covers referred to. Fig. 1 is a longitudinal section.
Referring specifically to the drawings, 1 indicates a casing or head having on the rear side a nipple 2, to which one hose-section 18 is connected by a suitable clamp. The other hose-section is connected in a similar manner to a block 13, which fits between the checks 1 of the head. This block has upper and lower hooks, (indicated at 15 and 16, respectively.) The lower hook engages over a rod 7 extending across between the cheek-plates 1, and the upper hook is engaged by a jaw 4, which is pivoted at 6 in the head. This brings the water-passages in alinement, with the rubber gaskets 19 in tight contact. One cheek-plate is recessed to contain a lever 8 and a link 11, which connects the lever with a pin 12, projecting from the side of the jaw 4into said recess. The pivot of the lever 8 is squared, as
at 9, to receive a suitable wrench through the hole 21 in a cover 21, (shown in Fig. 3,) which fits over said recess. By turning the lever by means of a wrench applied to the pin 9 the jaw 4 is lifted and unlocked from the hook 15. This allows the coupling to be broken and the hook 16 unhooked from the rod 7.
14, Fig. 2, is a cover which fits the top of the casing, being held in place by screws 1 which enter holes 5 in the head.
The jaw 4 looks by gravity, as in coupling the parts together the hook 15 lifts the jaw, which then drops behind the hook when the parts go together.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A hose-coupling comprising a head having spaced cheeks and a rod'extending across therebetween, and a swinging jaw therein, a block fitting in between the cheeks and having hooks engageable respectively with the rod and jaw, and means to release the jaw.
2. In a hose-coupling, in combination, a head having a swinging jaw therein, a block fitting in the head and having hooks one of which is engaged bythe jaw, and a lever located in a recess in the head and connected to the jaw and operating to release the same.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
LOUIS VOGT.
