PATENT OEEICE.
CORN-HUSKER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 787,793, dated April 18, 1905. Application filed December 3l, 1904. Serial No. 239,172.
To rtl?, whom, it mfr/ z/ concern:
Be it known that I, ANTON J. ROKU'SEK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Tabor, in the county of Bonhomme, State of South Dakota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Corn Huskers; and l do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear,
and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled Ain the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to corn-huskers, and more particularly to hand corn-huskers, and has for its object to provide a device of this nature which may be manufactured at a-low ligure and which will be simple in arrangement.
Another object is to provide a husker with which the husks may be positively grasped when being removed.
Other objects and advantages will be apparent from the following description, and it will be understood that changes may be made in the construction shown and that any suitable material may be used without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the drawings forming a portion of this speciiication, and in which like numerals of reference indicate similar parts in the several views, Figure 1 is a plan view of the invention with the straps unfastened. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the invention in use and showing the hooks. Fig. 3 is a view similar to Fig. 2, showing the back of the hand. Fig. 4 is a sectional view of the adjustable hook.
Referring now to the drawings, the present invention comprises a piece of rawhide or other suitable material, having the general form of a quadrilateral, the sides thereof being somewhat longer than its base. The triangular portion is indicated at 5, and in its base this portion has, adjacent toits side 8, an arcuate cut-away portion 7, which when the device is in use forms a thumb-hole. Be-
tween the cut-away portion 7 andv the side 8.
cut 15, are buckles 19 and 20.
Vtheportion 5 is cut into from its minor end,
as shown at 15, to form a partly-separated portion 16, and secured to the outer end of this portion there is a strap 17. Secured to the portion 5 adjacent to its side 12 and projecting beyond the minor end thereofl there is a strap 18, and secured to the portion 5, adjacent to its minor end and between the strap 18 and the The straps 10 and 11 are also provided with buckles 21 and 22, respectively.
Secured to the outer face 5 of the portion 5, centrally thereof, there is a metallic plate 23, having the usual form of adjustable hook 24 attached thereto, with its point directed toward the side 8 of the portion 5. The hook 24 is located adjacent to the corner of the plate which lies nearest to the side 8 of the portion 5 and to the cut-away portion 7. Secured to the outer face of the portion 5, adjacent to the cut-away portion 7 and projecting beyond the side 8, there is a plate 25, having its outer end sharpened and turned outwardly and backwardly over itself to form a hook. A reinforcing-strip 26 is secured to the portion 5 between the plate 25 and that portion. Secured to the portion 5 between the straps 13 and 14 there is a loop 27.
When the device is in use, the central portion of the portion 5 rests against the palm of the hand, with the plate `23 and hook 24 directed outwardly. The straps 13, 14, and 17 are passed around the back of the hand and are engaged in the buckles 20, 19, and 2l, respectively, the strap 18 being passed first through theloop 27 and having its end engaged in the buckle 22. In this position the hook of the plate 25 rests against the fingers of the user, and the plate 25 may be moved by moving the fingers to bring that plate into engagement with the point of the hook 24 to positively grasp husks to be removed, at the same time engaging the husks with the hook of the plate 25. As will be readily seen, the flexibility of the portion 5 permits of the moveby tlie fingers of the user to move it into enment of tlie plate 25 as described.- gagement with the point of tlie book, and a What is claimed isd second hook carried by tlie plate.
A device of the class described comprising In testimony Wliereol:l I affix my Signature 1n 5 aliexiblle bidy portion adapted fog attabment presence of two Witnesses.
to the anc a hook carried by t e bo y por- Y f tion and arranged to project in the direction ANTOB J ROKUSEIL of the fingers `of the hand to which tbe body l/Vitnesses: portion is attached, and a plate carried by the THos. J. WAGNER, IO body portion and arranged for engagement l J O S. V. VAGNER.
